Manual High Idle Capability?

It is my understanding that running your diesel at the standard idle speed is probably not a good idea long-term. I've built and tuned this thing so far with longevity in mind, but there's the occasional camping trip where I'd like to leave the engine running on a beach campsite or something similar where I can pipe the a/c, heater, electrics while I get a few hours nap in a camper through the "beer window" - stuff like that. It would also be nice to be able to set a slightly higher idle on really cold days to get the heat building in the engine and the heater going before setting off.

I've seen a couple videos of Cummins equipped Rams with a manual high-idle feature simply by activating the Cruise Control button on the wheel, then clicking the "Set" button to manually dial up the RPM to as much as 1500. You can cancel this by simply turning cruise off. I've also seen one video of the Ecodiesel doing the same thing but with different buttons - by simply pressing the Set + to raise it up, as much as 2000 rpm, and the Set - to lower it back down, or to tap the brake pedal to simply cancel back to normal idle.

Neither of these procedures worked for me :cautious: I was curious if we truly have this feature or if maybe my SFT tune disabled it, or if there's some other keystroke I'm, not privy to. Any of you guys got it working? Mine is a '16 model if that makes any difference.

I have a 2018 Ram and if ambiant temperature is below 40F the idle speed raises when the heater in the truck is turned on.

Mine will do that too, but essentially I'm exploring "truck stop" features. Sitting around at low idle for long stretches doesn't do any engine good, but if you prop it up a little north of 1100, the consensus is more positive. I used to wonder why even bigger rigs would idle up a little at truck stops, but I guess it's the same idea - keep the engine turning a little over idle, run all your electrics, climate control, etc and hop in the sleeper for a few hours - or in my case, a pop up tent in the bed with the beer window open and air going when camping on the beach.

Following! I use my truck for work and often times I'm in very cold conditions and leave the truck run or need to idle it up manually by foot to get it above 50°C.
