Hello and Happy New Year for everyone,
Just took my 2018, 45k miles eco diesel to a snowy road and needed to activate the 4WD but came to my surprise that pushing the buttons will only flash not engaging and shortly after a message that state Service 4WD appear on the dash. Somehow after many tries switching to neutral, parking, driving it looked on 4WD high. Of course it gives me same headache to switch back to 2WD. Scanned with Auto Link it bring up two codes from the Control Module, $7E8 and E9. I unplugged and plugged back all connections from the transfer case, front differential, find nothing wrong, still no fix.
Has anyone come across this issues with their eco diesel?
Thanks

Mine does that occasionally in its old age (140K miles) and I think it is because I rarely use 4WD for the last half of those miles. Shutting off/on fixes it. I have decided to engage 4WD periodically, whether I need it or not, to "exercise" the system.

For that amount of miles I will accept the fault, for 45k miles that my truck gauged I will say that the Stelantis built vehicle are not reliable, Im on the 6th factory recall, need third EGR cooler, got the Intake air control body replace @$940 out of my pocket.
But thanks God with the help of the internet, forums & YouTube I managed to troubleshoot and fix the problem. The front differential actuator was to blame, got a aftermarket one for $105 Automan brand, there are some cheaper no name ones for $60-70, anyway the one that I chose is 3 times cheaper than a OEM one end fit perfectly. Easy to install, is need to lift up the front passenger side to avoid the oil leak from the differential , unplug the wiring, unscrew the four bolts and with a twist the actuator body come out. Cleaned up the area and installed the new one. I did run a fit check on the new actuator by removing the connector wires and hooked up to the replacement actuator befor starting to remove the faulty one. Turned on the engine and run all the four options on driving mode and it performed well. I hope this will help anyone that encounters this kind of the issu.
