Unfortunately I joined the list of victims of the Eco-diesel engine today. 2018 Ram 1500, 145,000 km (90,000 miles), dealer serviced with no warnings signs prior to catastrophic failure of the engine.
$28,000 estimate for a engine replacement.
Contacted FCA customer care and they are very sorry this happened. Vehicle is out of warranty and there is nothing they can/will do to assist.
Has anyone had any success in dealing with FCA? I have heard d of FCA offering to pay for half of the repair. Has anyone had success in reaching this deal with FCA and if so how did you do it?

thanks for assistance you can offer.

Dec 8, 202110Truck Year2018My 2018 Ecodiesel shut down on the freeway May 23rd 2025. Towed to the dealership in San Diego, diagnostic done and was told "Catastrophic Engine Failure" and would need a new engine. Extended warranty with through 118,00 miles and expiration date of August 2026. Quality Guard is the extended warranty company sent an inspector out to verify and report back. Quality Guard required a breakdown of the engine to determine cause at my expense $2300. Once broken down again inspector sent to verify and report back to Quality Guard. The report went to Warranty Company review and determined the engine qualified for approval finally after 5 weeks from the incident. The cost of the engine and labor is $23,000.
Due to previous warranty coverage of $6,000 paid out for the Connect computer and a leakage repair the coverage for the engine would be $16,000leaving the balance of $7,000 to be paid by us. The new engine has a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Do I have any recourse with Dodge , FCA?
Do I keep the truck after engine replacement, sell it , trade.
    Any thoughts will help

My 2¢:
-You can try your luck with FCA, but since the factory warranty is expired, odds of getting anything are very low.
-You are going to take the financial "hit" whether you sell it broken or pay for the fix. To get some of the value back out of it, at minimum, keep it until the new engine's warranty is expired before selling. Personally, I would likely keep it longer and take extra care of it - 5-6k mi oil changes, plus Lucas synth oil additive from the start of the new engine, plus all the fuel pump measures like additive every tank, disaster prevention kit on the pump, etc. Again, that's just me.

Wow, that stinks. This is exactly why I just recently sold my 2016 eco diesel. 113,000 miles. Original owner really loved this truck. But wasn’t worth the risk. Hopefully FCA will help you out.
