The undercoating I got from the dealer seems to be applied pretty liberally it looks decent under there.
The package was lifetime warranty on rust/corrosion. I'm in Minnesota, rust happens and you can't stop it. But I figured it was worth the 1000$ to stick it to the dealer 6-8 years down the...
I'm on the exact same page as you are, and still on edge for the purchase but it's a 70% lean towards just getting the tune sooner ratified than later. 14k miles down since May, so I have similar feelings.
Let us know what GDE says please
That's just Info regarding they're paid feature. No Info if their regular tune deletes the factory one, or if they leave it alone?
See I understand how to trigger the factory engine brake though it is not from manually down shifting as their optional one is.
I don't want to purchase a hot tune...
I was amazed I actually jumped in my truck Sunday afternoon leaving Work and the block heater had the coolant temp at 116 it was just shy of 60 degrees outside but that's the highest I've ever seen it hit
That's a great question I'd like an answer to as well. If somebody has time to contact GDE with the question and follow up for everyone would be fantastic
Lol similar experience was not expecting it coming down a short but steep Hill. Never expected anything considering the comments about gde tune option being the only way to get an engine brake
Has anyone realized that the factory tune has an engine braking feature? Turbo braking specifically. But it only operates when the cruise control is on! It will drop gear and close the veins and engine brake. You will not Coast freely down a grade if you have your cruise control set.
Factory...
That's the thing, the Cummings has been around (antique) long enough with minimal changes it's finally requiring Chrysler to basically say "you don't need a banks chip or other tune; it has the power from factory. We were basically just screwing you with a lesser motor because you were going to...
I run the champion syngold oil in mine. I got it from Auto anything. I purchased 4x6qts enough for 2 oil changes + a little. It was about 160$ shipped free and eBay oil filters from Auto parts super store. 3 for 30$ as Shawn does.
Oil seems good. Haven't had it sampled though.
Speaking in US...
The filter is amazingly easy to change it's a cartridge style accessible from the top drivers side. Drip tray and everything it's great. The whole oil change is simple. Takes longer to dump 11 quarts of oil back into it than anything.

The issue with the factory tune is well FCA. they just stated with the 2016 press release that they intentionally detuned the Cummings so every year they can increase towing numbers without...
I'm much further from any of those locations but I know I'd consider it pending I was in the disaster situation that you are. But that's just me. I mean maybe they'd even be inclined to arrange shipping if they're seriously interested in learning about a new industry leading engine you know?
Yeah I completely completely understand your feelings there. (Also why I went across the state for a dealer with lifetime powertrain on lubricated parts) as I acknowledged it sucks that no one truly knows what they are doing with this engine to diagnose it for you without some new motor new...
The issue with the factory tune is well FCA. they just stated with the 2016 press release that they intentionally detuned the Cummings so every year they can increase towing numbers without actually Changing anything. No one wants to see the same numbers every year and I understand that as well...
