This is true for the 2nd gen EcoDiesel (2014 - 2019). The 3rd gen EcoDiesel (2020 - 2023) is a different type of glow plug and are prone to fail much sooner than the 2nd gen plug.

Depending on which glow plug, most take about 30 - 40 minutes to replace. My dealer charged me 1 hour of labor.

@nstavros, you need to update your mileage! According to my records, the last time you updated was at 114,848 miles! https://www.ram1500diesel.com/threads/100-000-600-000-mile-club.70918/

R99 (Renewable Diesel) has been around for 10 years, so it's not new. However, it's not widespread and R99 stations are very much isolated to certain regions. Renewable Diesel uses the same feedstocks as biodiesel, but how it's produced is even better. To answer your question, Renewable...

Thanks for sharing your experience and posting helpful information. At what mileage did your lift pump fail?

Just remember, the Mopar part comes with a 2-year/unlimited mile warranty if installed by an authorized dealer.

The 3-way valve is a long-lasting part. When was the last time you changed your coolant? My 2015 still has the factory 3-way at 10 years/135,000 miles, but I drain and fill the coolant every 30,000 miles.

This has been discussed for 9 years. So far, nothing has happened.

There's no class action lawsuit. Once you are outside of warranty, you have three choices: 1) Sell the truck as is 2) Install a crate engine 3) Install a rebuilt engine

My 2015 Ram EcoDiesel has 130,000 miles on the factory brakes and rotors. They still have life left. I did buy Mopar brakes and rotors when I do eventually swap them out. I'm really impressed with the factory brakes and rotors.

The engine builders are using oversized bearings. Some use KING bearings and others are using M&K bearings. When the main bearing fails, it will cause low oil pressure to the rods, which results in a spun rod bearing. If the engine doesn't get shut down in time, then you end up with a broken...

Do you take oil samples? If you're open to learning, you'll find out that bottom end failures on the EcoDiesel have nothing to do with the cleanliness of the oil. As a matter of fact, most failures happen under 60,000 miles. Borderline design and improper specs from the factory are the reason...

EGR has nothing to do with engine failures. There are people with over 400,000 miles on their bone stock EcoDiesels. I tow a 7,000 lb camper a good 5,000 - 8,000 miles per year with no issues. My 2015 is bone stock at 130,000 miles.

You won't be getting a 3rd gen engine. A replacement engine will be a 2nd gen engine. The dealership won't and can't install a 3rd gen engine in a 4th gen truck.

I'm your neighbor to the south of you. We don't have emissions inspection in New Mexico, either. However, it's still a federal crime to remove emissions, so for that reason, I will keep my truck emissions compliant for as long as I legally have to. Obviously, you have to make that decision for...

Do you want to sell it with a bad engine?

There's nothing magical that you can do to prolong engine life. Some engines will live a healthy 500,000 miles and others won't make it past 100,000 miles. The intake and head ports will get gunked up due to emissions, which is why some people delete. Deleting is illegal, so that becomes a...

The vast majority of bottom end failures happen before 70,000 miles. The higher mileage failures that you speak of can be due to oil starvation from carbon buildup on the pickup tube, or the bearings eventually fail due to a combination of wear and tear and weak bearing material. This is why I...

The clogged oil pickup screen is due to carbon buildup from a leaking injector seal. As long as the injectors haven't been touched, then you shouldn't have any problems. The issue is when the injectors get pulled and the tech either tries reusing the same copper seal, or the injectors aren't...

It seems to boil down to assembly issues. You either get a good engine or a bad engine. VM Motori has several bearing sizes. It appears that the wrong bearing size was used in many of the failures. The engine builders are now using a better bearing, but they are also measuring and making...
