That sounds like the fuel gauge is WAY off. I believe the standard tank size is 26 Gallons when dry. When my fuel light comes on, I can fill with 23 -24 gallons easy. I only did that once to calibrate what I see to what it holds otherwise it never goes below 1/4.
It is a long shot but do you take the same road, same lane and at almost the same speed every time you encounter the vibration? I ask because here on Long Island, NY we have a few roads that are build to NY's very high standards of CRAPPY or worse. There is a stretch of Sunrise Highway that...
Towing definitely shortens the oil life as it puts extra stress on the engine, especially when using the Tow/Haul mode. Tow/Haul puts the 'Jake' brake into a higher output and causes the truck to downshift faster to utilize the engines' braking ability; this causes the RPM to increase...
John, I have not had the opportunity to really study my truck yet while on a lift and am just going on my past experience. The vehicles I've owned in the past, cars included, always had lines from the transmission running to and from the bottom of the radiator. When I had a separate cooler...
For my 2016 I use Pronto P08157ex Oil Filters, PentoSpeed SP 5W-40 Oil and Pronto PF99119 Fuel filtes. They are MUCH cheaper than Mopar filters and meet or exceed the Manufactures specs. I did my first oil change at the dealer and they charged $71.00 for a oil filter compared to the Pronto at...
Since 1999 I have used Yokohama Geolanders on my vehicles both Passenger and Light Truck models. They were recommended to me by my local tire shop that has multiple large fleet accounts. Found that they are are cheaper than other comparable tires (P275/60/R20 Michelin was $250.00 ea., Yokohama...
I have used Lucas products for gas engines in the past and love them. How has your experience been for diesels? I am thinking of switching back to Lucas from PowerService as I get more for my money. Thank you for your reply.
I use PowerService products. Silver bottle for all weather, White bottle for cold weather (below 32*F), Red bottle for freeze-ups. In the winter I treat every tank with the white & every two add the silver also. In the warmer weather I use the silver only every 2 to 3 tanks. When I go on...
You say the odor is present during extended cold weather start up. Does it smell like spoiled Greek Yogurt? If that is the smell you are experiencing, then it is from the DEF as it is injected into the exhaust stream. The longer a vehicle idles, the more inefficient the combustion. as in the...
I live on Lone Guyland (Long Island) and would like to hear back from other Long Islanders with EcoDiesles. Given our unique traffic conditions, I am curious as to how you are doing with MPG. I travel about 20 miles to and from work and have been achieving between 18 - 21 MPG depending on the...
I found this today doing research on DEF freezing:
A large part of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is de-ionized water, do I have to worry about the tank or other parts of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system freezing?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) freezes into a crystalline slush at 12°F...
I purchased the same thing for my 2016. The DEF cap is tethered but the fuel cap is not so I went to Home Depot and purchased 18" of plastic coated wire rope and a set of ferrules. I was able to use the hole in the fuel door and the crown on this billet cap to make a custom tether. Now if the...
The only way I know of right now to fix a frozen DEF tank is to reheat by leaving it in a warm garage or blow warmed air across it. it is a valid question though and I will have to look into it myself like can 'Dry Gas' be added to the tank and not hurt anything. Dry Gas being methyl alcohol...
I hope this information helps; it was told to me by a diesel mechanic that works for the local fire district keeping all the fire apparatus ready for that moments notice.
He started with:
1. ALL DEF fluid is the same. No brand is better than any other so don't waste your money.
2. Naturally...
Shortly after posting this, I went back on Putco's website: www.Putco.com and found they now have a new LED light called Metal. It has the resistor built in and is supposed to prevent any light faults in newer vehicles.
LED lights require a resistor to make make the computer 'see' the proper voltage draw. In my previous vehicle I used the Putco Plasma bulbs for my front markers/directional and my rear stop/tail/turn. When direct replaced, they caused the blinker to flash at twice the speed with only half the...
Hello EcoDieselers,
I am the proud owner of a 'New to Me' 2016 Crew Cab. Having been a life long Chevy person, this is my first venture into a RAM and I have to say I am sold so far. Fell in love with diesels during my career and jumped when I had the opportunity to get my own. Hope to learn...
