So at 206K, my EGR finally failed (I guess). With various emissions codes showing and about a 10% drop in power and MPG, I took it to a reputable local shop that supposedly knows these engines. His diagnosis: "Upon Removal, found Vacuum Actuator Broken and has damaged Cooler, Cooler not sold individually, only as a kit. Also requires coolant.".
They're wanting $2220 for the complete EGR/Cooler assembly, plus assorted sundries for a total bill of $3500+. Obviously that's not horrible in comparison to many, but I'd probably be ready to do a Stage 2 delete - if I could figure out if it's even still possible! We don't have inspections in my part of Colorado, so not worried about that. Failing that, I was trying to source the assembly for something less than the shop's charge. That research turned into a minefield of various part numbers, both original and "campaign" parts.
Oh, and all recalls have been done, including the EGR back in 2019 (which makes me wonder, what parts did they use back then and were they the corrected ones, or still problematic? Many threads seem to say the final/fixed version of the assembly wasn't available until 2020).
Specific questions:
1) is it still possible to get a Stage 2 (or 1 for that matter) delete done in the US? It seems the kits are readily available - it's the tunes that are problematic? If still possible, who would you recommend?
2) Will the later model (2019+) EGR Cooler assemblies fit my 2016, and is that recommended? If not, does anyone have the definitive part numbers for the "corrected" EGR Cooler for my year?
3) Should I just bite the bullet and go with the shop's recommendation? Even if I do, I'm worried about all the other potential failures showing up soon after, such as intake, DPF, etc. If I was reasonably confident it would last another 50K+ without significant issues, I'd probably just go with it.
