Hey guy, I just received a recal for my 2016 Ram eco diesel which is for the 2014, 2015, and 2016’s. apparently the software upgrade is to enhance the exhaust emission control and on board diagnostics monitoring or the engine.

Reason: the emission control system needs to be reprogrammed to enhance exhaust emissions control and Obd monitoring.

I did hear in the past that they had a software issue that did a bypass when doing emission tests.

Has anyone had this software upgrade done and will it affect the engine performance/power?

Thanks for your answers in advance,

Matt

Yes Sir, it’s a Canadian 2016 Ram 1500 Eco diesel with 155000 Km on it. I guess they are just starting to roll out this recall for the emissions software.

I just caught up on the threads related to the US settlement. The only thing I received was the letter advising me to bring the truck in for the software update. My extended warranty ended at 120000km or 75000 miles. Knock on wood no issues besides a oil temp sensor. Sure would be nice if they would offer us Canadians 3000.00 US!!

I just read the thread in the below link and it looks like they are saying a settlement will come 6 months to a year down the road for us heavy haulers north of the border!! I’ll have to give the dealer a call and ask a few questions, in the meantime I guess I’ll sit on this software upgrade until I find out a bit more.

What Ps the most is the illusion some dealership portray, as being experts, when it comes to diesels the individuals come up short on knowledge and skill, big on the $$$$$$$...

Some SRs skills/mentality equal your local furniture sales people.

Well found this and read the statement of claim. Looks like February 2020 will be the earliest date for us Canadians to see some cash. Looks like they are going for the cost of the eco Diesel engine which is 4700.00 Canadian compared the the gas engine option. And possibley a little more for additional damages. I’m sure they will settle with a similar amount to the US settlement. Below is the link to the law firm, case filed in Toronto courts.

I’ve been lucky so far. Owned 2014 eco diesel.Waited for that truck to come out. Put on 75000kms dealership did a good job keeping it on the road ,def issues , engine shake down issues. Traded up to a 2016 now has 115000kms extended warranty ending. Looked at trading in dealer offered $27000 on Laramie longhorn in mint condition. Nowhere near what I owe. 90 grand to move to a new truck. Looks like I’ll hold on and see what the Canadian settlement offers . Bottom line no other truck I’ve owned does the job this one has done. Daily construction trailer pulls in the city . Gets same mileage as the hemi empty. I know, I did it with hemi 2010. I have a loaner 2019 f 150 Two weeks now. Gas bill $120 biweekly more than the eco. I got the reprogram recall notice. It will go in , any help it can get. Love the truck ,hate the threat of self destruction, best choice of bad choices until the Rivian arrives.

At least where I am at, the new Ram prices are very low. They are giving 30% off sticker on a routine basis. The result is used trucks are, in turn, that much lower as well.
