Last week my 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel would crank but wouldn’t start. A message popped up “Service Electronic Throttle Control”. I cleaned the MAP sensor, EGR tube and the Electronic Throttle Body of all soot. Afterwards the truck started right up and then the truck a day latter started doing the same thing. Sometimes it cranks with no start, other times the truck starts and runs fine. Any advice?

Be prepared for the bad news I got on my 15 ecodiesel. The tone wheel on the crankshaft is losing magnetic pieces and the tranny must come out to replace it.

Hopefully, that won't the case but I will keep you posted if that's turned out to be the issue. I just order an Electric Throttle Body and a MAP Sensor to see if the issue gets resolved. If the issue happens to be the "Tone Wheel" then I will cross that bridge when I get there.

Check the wires.
I checked the wires as best as I could the MAP Sensor wire harness that clips to the MAP Sensor was damages, I just order a new MAP sensor and the wire harness repair kit. Thank you for your advice. I will keep everyone posted as soon as the issue is fix and what fixed it.

Make sure your accelerator pedal is connected could of came loose.
Thank you for your response. I checked the Gas Pedal and everything seems to be ok. I made sure all the screws where tight and that the connector was not loose or damage. I turned on the vehicle but it cracked but did not start. I checked for codes and non where found. I order a new MAP Sensor and Electric Throttle Body unit, as soon as it gets here I will install it and see if that fixes the issue. I will keep everyone posted.

Oh for sure that’s my next project on this truck. I just installed the MAP Sensor and the truck started right up. In the end it was a bad MAP Sensor. But, when I was removing the diffuser tube I did notice the manifold caked in soot so, I knew then, I was looking at my future project…lol.

Update…I replace the MAP Sensor and the truck started right up with no issues. I purchased the MAP Sensor new on Ebay for $34, Dodge and AutoZone wanted $300 plus for the same part…crazy!

Do you us any fuel additives or oil additives?
I use both:
-Fuel: Power Service and/or Howes. Mainly for HPFP lubrication - it needs it, also raises cetane for better combustion.

-Oil: Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer. Extra lube/protection of main bearings - also needs it. Plus, previous experience with Lucas saving rebuilt engine from damage when oil cooler line blew on the road and wasn't able to pull over immediately.

However, I don’t use any oil additives because I use a high end oil (Schaeffer Full Synthetic 5W-40) and the chemicals in the “oil additive” may not work together with the oil I’m using. Schaeffers oil has already additives added to it. There is no need to add more additives such has an “oil additive” fluid.
