We had some bleow zero temps here and I noticed a flashing glow plug code since the low temps. What is this caused by and what is the fix?
I normally let the glow plug light go off before I try to crank it over. But it now stays on and flashes while the engine is running.
Your thoughts??
Thanks

Recently had this issue with glow plug light flashing and check engine light coming on. Would only happen when the truck was warming up. If warm and turned off and back on it would go away so not sure it's same issue. Regardless, I saw something that said to change out the glow plug control module, which seemed to fix some people's issue, but mine kept flashing. Took to dealer and they said there is a known issue with the wiring on the alternator coming loose, causing the glow plug light to come on. They tightened things up and seems to be fixed. Try that first, then try the glow plug module. Very easy fix: https://www.moparfactoryparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-glow-plug-module-68282916aa

This occurred with my 2014 two days ago. I am not in a place where I can stop driving the truck and am hoping I am not damaging anything. Despite the Glow Plug and Check Engine lights, the truck is running perfectly.

So is the general consensus that this is a Module problem or a wiring problem on the alternator?

You shouldn’t be causing any damage. Mine too does it randomly due to a glowplug. A majority of the time this occurs, it’s either a glowplug or the glowplug module. The glowplugs are a PITA to change but not impossible. Use caution as they’re prone to breaking in the head and have to be extracted.

Thanks for the reply... I'm at 160K on the truck and maybe it is time for new glowplugs all around.... What is the general opinion on how long they last?

That’s a tough call. Mines at 190k and I’ve replaced one at 120k and now i have another giving the flashing light. I would not try to replace them all unless the one that’s giving you the code comes out easily. Typically the head swells up around them just a tick and dirt and debris gets down in between the plug and head so when you go to unthread them, you end up putting them in a bind and snapping off the top hex of the plug.
