Good morning. I purchased a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 ecodiesel. Truck has great torque and enough power. Love the drive, however a couple of weeks ago before leaving on holidays I got off work at 1am and my truck wouldn't start. Nothing, no clic, no turning over, but lights worked on dash etc. Sat and contemplated what to do. I got out and lifted the hood, wiggled fuses got back in and still nothing. Sat for a while shaking my head. Got out again and walked around a bit to clear my head then got back in and it started. Got home turned engine off and it wouldn't start. I put my code reader on it. All I did was search the code number.
The P1289 code is a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that indicates a high voltage in the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor circuit. If your vehicle has this code, you can try these steps:
  • Check the cooling system, especially if the engine has overheated.
  • Refer to the Workshop Manual Section 303-03 for cooling system diagnosis.

I wanted to share what ended up being the problem with my truck. Had it towed to a reputable dealer and am glad I did. I am quite sure that many problems and error codes could result in the same issue. Turns out it was a corroded circuit board under the battery (i beleive this is where he said it was). A new circuit board is $1500 dealer price. He cleaned the circuit board for a fraction of the price. Mind you I am now aware if something were to happen again.

New update. Again out of the blue, it won't start. No click, nothing. Again towed to dealer. When they got it apparently it started and they can't figure out why. They tried selling me another vehicle. They offered me what I had left owing as a trade. $3800.00 couldn't get out if there quick enough as I was about to snap. Their reasoning? "But we are taking all the chances". Last time it was the circuit board being corroded but now the new circuit board is 1800.00. Sometimes I just hate some people. Looked up the circuit board and some of the issues that could happen with this board are the non starting issues. Shows the circuit board is a little over 1000.00. I'm not a mechanic, which is ok because Mechanics couldn't fix. I would like to know more about this circuit board the is under the battery? Any info would be great. No error codes.
