Also it takes a while for the def gauge to register change, up to like 10 Minutes? So if you put your key in the on position and just it sit for a while to give it enough time to register. Just a quick key cycle may not register the present level.
Is your def needle on E? You should be able to put cycle the ignition and see if it's registering a fluid level change by now even? Don't even need to start it.
Also owners manual states to only fill def to 2/3 or something like that because of expansion when freezing in climates that see sub...
Just Make sure and flush that out good before refilling. (Hence my opinion on just using the hose to let it overflow and flush out [I know winter isn't the ideal time to do this])
Sweet. Are you actually going to drop the tank or flush it in place? That's what I would do. Just do a vinegar water fill for 3 hours, drain, flush, and then dump a few gallons of def in. Just my opinion if I were in your shoes.

Well when you run out of miles just don't turn off the truck! It will stay running at zero miles but it won't restart. So that will be your last drive to the dealership.

I would definetly do a vinegar solution flush to take out the urea and mineral deposits. Also there's no sense using distilled water for the flush in my opinion, it's just in and out so the garden hose would do just fine.
Not saying it'd solve your problem but in my opinion it'd be worth putting the time into to play with it before eating a dealership bill. IF you drain out the tank I'd just flush water through the fill neck a time or two or three. drain it out again and see if the gauge registers a change in...
I haven't looked but I wouldn't think there'd be much to it. The exhaust sensor is easy to access, and the tank I've read some success with just flushing it with water to clear the deposits
At that point I would try draining the def tank and cleaning the sensors, also the def injector in the exhaust could be restricted. Should all be simple stuff to do yourself. I had seen some def crystallization on the exhaust injector causing problems when I was researching low temp def years ago.
Honestly it won't hurt the truck either; even with the update. Fca outright said to me on the phone that I could run out my 5w30 oil change without any harm. And no flash is going to Make a certain oil weight all of a sudden insufficient. Assuming by this point you get where I'm going.
