There is also a thread on this forum about the oil change bulletin. I saw this when I did a search. They are thinking the oil improvement will take care of the main bearing issues: http://www.oildepot.ca/5w-40-motor-oil-now-suggested-all-ecodiesel-engines/
I had the same idea about pinning the timing/cam gears. I saw a video where they could spin the gear with one finger! He said he thought it was an interference fit, meaning heat shrunk/press fit. Hope they change THAT design!!
Doing more homework, and, reading a thread on this forum, I did a search and came up with this (they are hoping to avoid main bearing failure):

Hmmmmmmm....I need to check with my dealership. Picked mine up in February 2016 and just got my first oil change in November. Nothing at all was said. Paid for the whole thing. To be continued.....
I looked at a video last night on youtube that shows a failure of one of the camshaft gears for the timing chain. Spun on the shaft, out of time and BAM! Not very confidence inspiring. Also saw a related video where someone will "bulletproof" the 3.0 L but didn't look deep enough to find out...
Looks good!! 2 of my favorite things: ATVs and Camping!! My 2015 Ram and our 24' Sunline Solaris and a pic of me (photo right), my Cousin (center) and my Grandsons!!
Why I was asking. Wondering if the oil viscosity breaks down and the lubricity is decreased to the point that the bearings just go away. I will have to do more reading on this. Thanks
I just looked yesterday at what were considered 3 very good diesel fuel additives. Lucas makes a good upper cylinder/fuel pump lube, Power Service makes a good lube/cetane boost/winter formula which I chose to use. There was a third that was higher priced so I chose the middle of the road. Do...
I understand the oil cooler is LIQUID cooled. The oil cooler can fail which will be the culprit for the oil in the coolant. I wonder if that is what is causing the engine failures?
Hello!! I knew I wanted a diesel for towing but, since I only tow 3x a year (for now), I didn't want a 2500 anything for a daily driver. I tried to get a deal on a Grand Cherokee with the ecoDiesel but they were not making any deals on them. I started looking at the RAM 1500 and was THRILLED...
2015 Ram Eco Diesel Quad cab, short bed, 20" bright wheels, power center rear window glass, front and rear parking sensors, towing package, front tow hooks, skid plates, large screen entertainment center (nav capable). My only regret: I got the "in the window channel" vent visors. Gave me wind...
I was viewing a video from a guy in Canada re the GDE tune. He also mentioned his anti-freeze dropping. He showed a video of the passenger side of the engine and of a valve weeping. He maintains it is a common problem for these engines.
Unexpected is understated! My Grandson was driving us around in WV, we were going downhill and next thing you know the engine is revving up to 3300-3500 rpm! I said "what are you doing!!!??" He said "NOTHING"!! We figured it out, and now that I am READY for it, I love it. Taking long rides to...
