A. Oil analysis seems pretty cheap to me.
B, I am no mechanic but it makes sense to have a sample of the oil early in its life cycle compared to the end of it's life cycle.
C. Mostly because I am "interested " in the results this being my first diesel truck
D. Since I own and very much enjoy...
Well I am encouraged today. I sent an oil sample to Blackstone Labs to see what I got back. I will share mine with you.
Seems like a good report and I will be following up with another analysis at the end of this oil cycle jut before I change it.
Went to the dealer the other day to pick up a quart of Rotella T6. I was casually talking to the parts manager about the "over the air" software update (mine went flawlessly) and he said he was waiting to see what the differences would be from the 2016 to the 2018 ED. According to him they will...
Yep, that is good to hear.
OA appears to be a must with these engines and a common theme amongst long lived 3.0's. Got all my stuff to send my first one in to Blackstone this week.
Ordered 2 sample containers from Blackstone labs plus the vacuum pump from Blackstone also. I had an oil change done about 1000 miles ago and will be sending the first sample in this week. I will send the 2nd sample in just before I have my oil changed. That should be a good baseline for future...
So you have done the GDE tune and have had oil samples done before and after the tune?
Any way you could post those results. If you can't that is ok.
Super interesting BTW.
Thanks for the info. It seems there has been a trend with oil in the coolant on some of the Eco Diesel failures I have read about. A couple Oil Analysis a year might be cheap insurance? I guess if something turned up you could take it in and have it looked at pre emptively?
Thank you so much for showing that report. I have ordered a sample kit from Blackstone and will have a couple done over the winter.
I will be curious to see what the sampling shows me!
A couple questions for you:
Where do you get your oil analysis done?
How frequently do you have them done? are you saying you think twice a year is sufficient
What exactly do you look for in them? sodium levels?
