I had it done at the local dealer. The total cost was $1700.00 I believe.
The only other thing I really worry about is the coolant line under the intake manifold. I may get an estimate on that too.
When my 8 year warranty was up on the tone wheel I just paid to have it done, along with a new crank shaft positioning sensor and rear main seal just because. I kinda considered it just insurance/maintenance as my truck has been 100% trouble free and I thought it was better than losing it on a trip!
Many are happy with their purchase! I have a 2015 bought new and have never had a problem. I am fussy about oil changes and maintenance (what else can you do?) Mine only has 71000 on it and I expect to drive it quite some time or until my needs change!
I kinda don't understand, it sounds like your engine was toasted anyway. It doesn't sound like you would have gotten far from the dealer whether you had magnets or not?
There is really no definitive answer that I have read.... possible causes are everything from too much soot in the oil. plugged oil passages, poor quality control at the factory, harmonic oscillation of the crank, too small of bearings, and wrong viscosity of oil. To my knowledge none of those...
short answer is no. the tone ring has nothing to do with fuel.
There was a software flash that allowed your vehicle to run with a tone ring failure (W58 I believe) but you still need to get it repaired.
"it always seems like some guy think he is the smartest and everyone else is an idiot. But......."
Well no one wants to be THAT guy!, best advice is to do copious amounts of reading and make up your own informed opinion!
To get you started there are several types of tunes and not all are...
There is a large wiring harness connector that runs along the frame under the drivers seat. It has been known to come loose and need to be reconnected. You did not not mention if you had a check engine light or any trouble codes. You might check the connections at the ECM also.
Not sure how you managed that! FCA does not replace the tone ring unless it fails (which yours obviously didn't) Are you sure you just didn't get the software patch? The tone wheel is usually at least a day and a half repair!
