I didn't make too much of a mess with my first change but I got a bad seal on my original valve and had to switch it.
But boy did that valve make draining all the oil (quart by quart into the original clean containers) make life easier when I had to re do my oil change.
It circulates coolant through the tank in addition to the 12v system when the truck is running which is the only way the system thaws in the winter. And also is why people with short commutes have issues with the DEF never getting thawed and causing issues with the trucks. It needs to get to...
I think it only runs when the truck is on. The fuel filter heater does keep it from gelling though. But a 8gallon DEF tank would be too much to keep from freezing in my opinion.
Or just let the shutters do their job; remove the grill and throw some cardboard in front of the lower portion of the radiator only directly below the shutters and directly up against the radiator. That shouldn't cause any issues with the intercooler as it's frontwards
Make sure not to have your DEF tank completely full when you take delivery. Dealer should top off all fluids upon inspection; try to make sure you don't get that completely filled as it does freeze up your way and could cause issues.
I would have no idea what cetane ratings are either but I run almost strictly Holiday station stores fuel and I haven't had any issues; 90% of my lifetime fill ups are at my local Holiday. Run a bottle of Lucas in every tank, Holiday blends and advertises winter temp ratings so I haven't used...
Used it on my old Mercedes originally; the wife's BMW x5, a Cadillac, a Pontiac, Chevy pickups, Subaru's, the Ecodiesel and numerous other vehicles I can't recall but I've never had issues with mine. It's not the fastest to connect and maybe it has something to do with limited egt readings...
I use the basic ELM it works fine for me got it from newegg for about 15$ about two years ago and have used torque for various vehicles that entire time
Mopar says it's only necessary at 30k unless the water in fuel light comes on. Draining it periodically does extend the life of the filter and is regular maintenance. But I changed my first one around 15k yes. Regular getting ready for winter maintenance
