If you have a 2021 Eco Diesel Engine, the Oil Capacity is 8L/8.5Qt of Full Synthetic 5W-40 Oil, MS-12991.
The MS-12991 certification is new on the 2021 Eco Diesel Engine. It is different than the Rotella 5W-40 MS certification I used in my 2016 Eco Diesel. Looking at the Attachment in...
I use Total Quartz 9000 Energy 5W-40 in my 2021 Ecodiesel Bighorn. It has the Chrysler MS 12991 approval on it.
Used to use Rotella 5W- 40 in my 2016 ED which was the recommended Oil for that Model Engine.
I had my 2021 Bighorn Ecodiesel for a while now. Have driven about 9000Km so far. It is a big improvement from my 2016 SLT.
The Power and the mileage is a big improvement. Also the Payload is up by a bit, one of the Reasons I went for the 2021.
I towed a U haul Tandem Axle Trailer for about...
John Jensen,
I'm certainly no Expert and I don't want to sound like a Know it All. In this case, it seems like I should have kept my Opinion to myself.
As I said, only my Opinion. A lot of Automobile Makers are against Additives. Todays Oils with complex Additive Packages, deal with
Soot Control, Heat Breakdown etc. Add anything to it, you are changing the Structure of the Oil. And why would you. What is the Benefit
of the Additive? We will...
Why would you even think of doing that? Rotella T6 is a very good Oil in my Opinion. It is designed for a certain Purpose.
Adding anything to it changes the Structure of the Oil and might make the Oil perform worse then what it was engineered to do.
But then, that's only my Opinion.
I ordered a 2021 Bighorn in the later part of 2020 and received it in March 2021. Only have 1950 Km on it so far, but I'm
going on a longer Trip on Friday. I will report more when I get back.
So far, I like it better than my 2016. Better Power and better Transmission Tune. Holding the Gears...
The old Filters, Oil and Fuel, do not fit the New Gen3 Engine. I just received my new 2021 Ram Eco Diesel Bighorn and the Part No. are different for the new Engine.
Specs were changed again for the 2020/2021 Gen.3 Eco Diesel. They now want a 5W-40 synthetic MS 12991. Mopar Brand is the only one mentioned in the Manual. Rotella T6 does not show the MS 12991 on the Container. There are not many Oils available which meet the MS 12991 Specs, at least not where...
I also have a 16 with no Issues. 50000 km, mostly long distance. I don't drive it in the Winter, unless it's for longer Distances. My Reason for
that is because of where I live, Canada's Yukon, where Temperatures drop down into the -40C. For me to go into Town, less then 10 min.
drive, I don't...
A 2015 with 16000 mi. That seems really low. You should get the EGR Cooler replaced and then drive the Truck. I don't think there is anything
you, yourself can program. And if your Truck runs great, why would you?
FCA changed the Oil Specs already a few Years ago to Shell Rotella T6 5W- 40. I also have 2016 Eco Diesel and I switched right after the change. Used the Rest of my Pennzoil in my Wife's Van. If you pull up the Diesel Supplement for 2016, you will find the change in there.
I have a 2016 Eco Diesel. My Oil is always Black as well. Had Oil Analysis done 3 Times and change Oil at about 8000km. Analysis came back good. Now, why is the Oil so Black? My thought, the EGR is sending all that Exhaust back through the Engine. No wonder it's black.
The New 2020 Engine is...
I have the same problem. I think this has been addressed here before. It is a design problem in my opinion. Take a look how the
Dipstick Tube is shaped. Once you pulled out the Dipstick, there is now Oil in most area in the Tube and you never get a reading
anymore. So, you can only do it once...
First Oil change on your 2015 Eco Diesel. I hope somebody else changed the Oil in that Engine before.
Go with Manufacturers Recommendation, Shell Rotella T6 5W- 40. I do my own Oil changes, take my time. Let it drain well 15 min. or longer.
I let it drain sometimes 30 min. plus while I do other...
I'm pulling a smaller 5th Wheel RV trailer, 4500 to 5000 lbs. Used to pull it with a Nissan Frontier. I choose the ED over the Cummins. I thought it was overkill for what I'm using it for.
Thanks for your advice,
SLT.
I don't even know where to go to get an Oil Analysis done. I guess I'll ask at the Kenworth Shop. How often do you change your Oil? I have changed mine 3 times so far, 1st at 3400km (2100mi), 2nd at 11800km (7300mi), 3rd at 21000km (13050mi). First two were Euro L Oil, the last one T6 5W-40...
