2015 Ram 1500 GrillCraft MX Series grille install

Finished up the install today. Went pretty smooth, and as I've said before, they make a solid product IMO.

We are in the middle of 3" rain fall so pics are just in the barn which isn't very friendly to cameras. Will definitely get more when the weather cooperates.

Any questions on install, fire away. There was no cutting required, only 14- 3/16" holes to drill in the plastic mounting tabs. I also reinstalled the black scoops. I felt that was important. This could easily be reverted back to OEM, should one choose to do so.

A guy came up to me today while the truck was parked and asked about it. He is a retired engineer from Kenworth, our local big rig building plant. He was very knowledgeable about diesels, and was interested about this truck. We spent a good 20 minutes or so going over it, and his overall impression was outstanding. Said there's no reason that truck won't do half a million miles, given I take care of it.

Talk about a boost of confidence! It was good to talk with someone who is excited about it as I am. Most my friends don't have a clue as to the groundbreaking technology that is it it, nor care. Where I'm from, a truck is a truck. This guy was very refreshing!

I'm glad you shared that. When one spends as much time as I do on the net. You read so many issues and peoples OPINIONS about things that were done wrong on this engine. One starts to wonder if one made a good decision.

I've always tried to hold the view point that most will only post to complain. And if you go looking for something. You will certainly find it. I think we in general sometimes loose focus of the facts. This is a motor that was engineered by people much smarter then most. Certainly smarter then me. To be as tough and durable as could reasonably be expected.

I don't have a cts readout and always worry about if I'm hurting my truck by not knowing if I'm shutting down in the middle of a regen. While it is surly a good idea to know when it's happening. If it was a vital part of Maitnence/ownership. I'm sure those readings would have been included in the evic system.

I'd be willing to bet that if you just drive your truck and make sure you follow the recommended maitnence. All will be just fine.

^^^^ very good post. I feel the same way. I'm going to just follow the maintenance schedule, use all the recommended fluids, and take care of it. I'm pretty confident it'll take care of me in return. No need to overthink things I reckon.

Wow that looks awesome and looks like better functionality for air to flow do u think the scoops on the side help am not sure what's behind them but if there is no rad fins behind it then I guess the scoops help direct all the air into the rad again great job

I would definitely keep the scoops. I can't verify their effectiveness through real world tests, but leaving them in them seems to be your best bet on maintaining OEM air flow with an aftermarket grille.

I've not noticed it one way or the other. I did the swap purely for aesthetic reasons.

I know it has been a number of years since this thread but I have a question if you remember..... How did you keep the plastic shrouds after changing to the Grillcraft MX series grill?

Do you mean the black plastic shrouds behind the grill that funnel the air? If I recall correctly they just snapped back in with tabs...

And thanks for taking me way back. That may have been the first thing I did to it when I brought it home. For the record, the grille has held up beautifully for 5 years and 100k miles.

Cool and thanks for answering! I have a set coming next week and I was looking at your pics. I thought it looked like the tabs for the shrouds were on the stock inserts. Good to hear they held up!
