Ask if there is still the same glued-on reluctor ring on the flywheel to time the injection cycle. If so, ask the construction or glueing of the thing has improved so there are fewer failures.

Pay attention to any obvious coolant changes, such as the slot cut in the from tbumper and position of maybe an oil cooler or larger radiator cooler to take advantage of any greater frontal coolant area.

The rest of the changes are public and known.

Oh - as for your first question ... only if I find out that GDE can tune the thing. That will take months. No way in Heqq would I run a modern diesel with a working EGR system, even one with a double system like the 2020 is proposed. Same with the DEF fragile and failed mess.

If the Ecodiesel is not tuned like GDE or fully deleted, it is like all the others, big or small, crap.
