Buyback procedure

Last week, my ‘15 had the engine is overheating alarm go off (temp gauge showed normal). I was able to add water and made it the 4 miles to a Ram dealer. I am now versed on the EGR cooler leak and failure. I had the AEM done a few months ago and am aware that the warranty states that if the truck sits at the dealer for over 30 days, it qualifies for buyback. It appears as there is not a fix right now that I will be without the truck for well over that time limit.
My preference is to get rid of the truck and move on. How does the buyback process work? How is the price determined? If the truck didn’t have these issues, I could use it as a trade in for another truck. That would save me sales tax on the final number, if the truck is worth $25,000, that’s $2,000 @ 8%. Can that be taken into account?
