Car Wash

I went through the car wash yesterday and used the “soft touch brush “ after I pulled out I noticed the fuel door was open. No water sitting in there but also went through the blower for drying. I’m due for fuel filter change soon anyway but just wondering if anyone else had this happen. If there was an actual fuel cap it would be no big deal but I guess it’s too much work removing a cap before you fuel up. I didn’t like that idea when I first saw it. You want to keep fuel as clean as possible!

I don't think you got any water in the fuel tank as the second filler flap makes a good seal. Any water into the fill tube would exit via the weep hole above the second flap.

I use Geno's locking fuel and DEF caps. If they are too much work for you before you fill up you are in too big a hurry. Slow down and smell the roses.

Sounds like a good idea even if just to keep some xxxxxxx from dumping crap in your tank.
Are these available for the new no cap style ?
Thanks

That's the main reason I have the caps.
Yes, available to fit the new cap style like what's on my 2020 Cummins.

I found some caps on Amazon because I lost my plastic stock cap. Made of aluminum and have a rubber gasket, little stiff getting them to sit properly but nothings getting past it. I got the DEF and Diesel cap combo and I think it was $20, well worth it though.

Listen I had rain water leak thru the door and into filler neck. It turned into ice thru the night and pushed the flap door open. Sending all that water to separator. Well few days later truck shut down getting on highway due to water reaching sensor in separator. Service manager could not gaurantee me water went no further than this and suggested I replaced high pressure fuel pump mostly as he said the fuel acts as lubricant and water reaching pump could cause failure later. That plastic insert in filler tube is a joke. I purchased after market cap with a oring seal off Amazon $15. You need to protect and prevent water ingestion at the inlet.

Thanks for your info. I’ve been running diesels on the farm since I was 15 (a long time) and know water is bad in fuel. Got the locking caps from Geno’s and they are very well made.
