Cleaned map sensor and egr tube wow!

New to the site and my eco diesel I bought at 40,000 miles a month ago now has 45,000 and I decided to clean the map sensor and egr tube..... holy crap there was a lot of crap on the egr tube and looking inside the plenum, it was caked in there!! How are these things Gana look inside with 200,000 miles on them? I have the banks bullet tunner on mine and I'm sure it's not helping anything but wow kinda freaked me out. Just thought I would share

After reading similar posts I was concerned and took out my EGR tube and MAP sensor as well yesterday .Has 58,000km and it was pretty nasty. Wasn't to hard to do though . Will be checking it again for sure down the road.

I took my egr tube off the other day and it was also crutty but it was soft and oily so I let it soak in gasoline and took a rag to clean and blew it dry with compressor. I always put a reputable additive in my tank every tank since I bought the truck because I find the diesel nowadays very dry and not as oil base maybe it will bite me in the butt but so far my truck is running goodand when it regens I put it in 6,th gear and let her rev and go through its cycle on the hwy.

I removed the EGR tube at 15000 miles when I had the EGR eliminated in an attempt to improve the engine longevity and found the fouling inside rather worrying. Truck has currently 62000 miles and I will remove the tube again and compare the findings with others. Pictures attached is from 15000 miles.

I bought it preowned, and the guy before me had 500 running hours with 225 idling. Maybe that's why it's so bad?!?

It's not hard. The map sensor is under the motor cover in the back center of the motor. You need to remove the foam insulator, and it's easier to get to if you remove the fresh air intake tube.

T40 torx bolt and disconnect the wire from it. 10 min job.

I didn't remove the egr tube from mine. It's pretty much useless to clean that unless you're getting a code from it. I would actually rather it plug up with soot....then no more could get through. Lol

The map sensor on the other hand is pretty important, so I am going to clean that at every oil change from now on.

Are you sure that what you cleaned is the map sensor because I thought the map sensor is located after the air filter in the tube which has a mechanical clamp holding on both sides to remove it I would like to see exactly where that part you removed is thank you

Thanks. I wasn't having a ton of luck finding it on YouTube. I've been having a ton of problems with my truck and the dealer keeps throwing at the truck. It's on it's 4th set now in 55k miles.

you buy a spray bottle that is specifically for map sensors or spray break clean on a QTIP and be gentle when rubbing the wires in your sensor clean that's what I do but yes every oil change would be a good habit to do it unless you don't hardly drive on gravel roads or you see your mileage dropping. I find these trucks are good on fuel if you don't have a head wind or grades on the highway our calculation in Canada is litres which is 4.54 litres to our gallon or 3.78 litres for an American gallon my truck averages anywhere from 8 litres to 10 which is about 30 miles to the gallon with a GDE tune I don't drive it hard 60 - 65 mpg. The GDE tune is expensive but the truck run better I get regens about every 1200 klm. approx. 750 miles which last about 15 - 20 miles in which I shift it into 6th gear at highway speeds and let her rev at about 2200 rpms through out the regen remember it is a diesel and it should work that's what diesel are meant to do

Thank you I will be removing mine and clean it too, my egr tube was carbon up but soft deposits so I only soaked it in gas blew it dry and put it back on . I got a fumoto valve to make oil changes easier and it sure saves a mess to clean up , I was so impressed that I got one for the wife's car too

Is it ok to use brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner on the map sensor?

you can't use a carb or brake cleaner for cleaning MAF sensors, the chemicals in those cleaners can destroy the sensors. CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner is Plastic Safe and made specifically to clean MAF Sensors.

you can use a MAF cleaner on a throttle body, but you cannot use throttle body cleaner on a MAF. The MAFs are very particular. If you use the wrong kind of cleaneron the MAF sensor and it leaves a residue, it can burn a little wire if it's a hot-wireMAF sensor. ... It's just, on the MAF sensor, it evaporates faster.

Ditto for brake cleaner

I am new to diesels. What sort of performance issues would one expect with a fouled MAP sensor and EGR tube? I purchased my ecodiesel with 63K miles last Fall, now at 72K.

After cleaning both my MAP sensor and my EGR tube. I put everything back. I was very excited to see what a difference it was going to make. Well, bad news now it seems as though my truck is mis firing. I have checked and rechecked all connections and everything. Has anyone else had this issue. Please help!! Thank you in advanced.
