I recently had to take my truck in to the shop because my DEF liquid crystallized in my tank and caused at check engine light. What do I need to do to not have me DEF liquid crystallize
The Urea is the Cause 67% Deionized water and 33% Urea, it will happen again, Many Owners Including My self for Model Years 2013-16 on Rams are running Distilled water at less than 16%. My ED I mixed 1 Gallon of DW to every 2.5 Gallons DEF.
Shoot I have no idea what I have in my truck. I just filled up at the truck stop and called it good. I hope it's ok next week as it'll be cold in Montana at 3 for the low and 18 for the high and the truck will be sitting out. I'll have my block heater and grill cover so that part will be fine.
DEF Retail is ALL 67% DI and 33% Urea. Block Heater & WF for 3F , LOL. If this motor can't start at 3F not plug in......... sell. Now if you don't want to wait for it to warm up by running , Plugging in will help. I have NOT plug in any HPCR engine in My life ,MY 2003 was at Our Cabin IN West Yellow stone at -45 and it Started Right Up, in fact ,engines that have proper Battery power and starts in -0 temp is a darn good indictor its tight. My 2013 6.7 has stated at -40 not plug in.
I suggest following the manual to the letter regarding block heater and grill cover use. I've been as cold as 7 degrees in Vermont already this month and my DEF was fine. I treat my fuel to prevent gelling.
