i just found this information;

It is normal when you pull them out because there is a pit in which the glow plug sits and oil collects down in that pit while the glow plug is in place. Once you pull the glow plug the oil will drain into the cylinder, which is fine, you will burn the oil off once you start the truck.

So nothing to worry about, it's normal when pulling and replacing the plugs.

I just purchased a 2015 Ecodiesel at auction. it had an engine fire, so the intake was melted. After getting the intake off, I noticed that 2 of the glow plug tips were loose, so I am going to replace them. I found that there is a Volvo part that crosses to the Bosch 0250603008 https://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/convert/BOSCH_PN/0250603008

This part is not available in the US, but I was able to find a set of 5 in Germany on ebay for about $32 US shipped. The length on this part is exactly the same as the Bosch part (per the seller's spec). It's going to take a month to get here, but I'm in no hurry since I have other repairs to do anyway. This is also quite a bit cheaper than the best onshore price I can find.

Should be interesting to see how it affects starting? I am not sure if there are different resistances or temperatures in glow plugs?

I measured the old ones at around 0.7 ohms. The new ones were at 1.4 ohms, so it will probably take twice as long. I'm in the Sacramento valley (California), so I probably won't need them very often anyway.

IIRC they come on and off until it’s warmed up that’s why it’ll throw codes and errors on the evic until it’s warmed up

So I’m not getting the full screen like the original post, but I do have the glo plug icon with this error code. Seemed to happen after washing the undercarriage of the truck and going through a lot of mud? If code is cleared it comes back randomly within a week? Any ideas

Glow plug is intermittently faulting or poor connection. Could also be the glow plug relay, I believe that’s located near the ecm Towards bottom of chassis. Mine went a month beetween codes and ended up being glow plug

I’m gonna try and get to it and clean tonight.

Mine would throw 4 codes every time I hooked my scanner up.

Cleaned and went Away, then came back this morning. I’m pretty sure it’s not the glow plugs. Something is going on with the wiring and of module.

I’d dielectric grease your connections and start with the glow plug relay before attempting removal of the plugs, I fought with mine till I replaced the plug and it fixed the issue. It’s a pita to replace the plug. I’d advise beer and plenty of lube and time to ease it out, or take it to a diesel shop and let them do their magic.

I used some electrical cleaner And I’m going to buy some grease today.

Replaced the glow plug yesterday and it went smoothly. I drove the truck about a half hour each way to/from the dealer to get the part so the engine was hot when I removed it. Here’s a quick step by step of what I did:

- Disconnect MAF senor, remove air box & air intake tube up to the 90 degree boot to the turbo
-removed the EGR Diffuser Tube to get a little more room to work (not really necessary but I would recommend)
-pull up on the small ‘t’ shaped plastic handle of the electrical connection to the glow plug. Might have to wiggle/twist as you pull but it should pop right off.
-spray some PB blaster, use a 6pt 1/4” drive socket and small 1/4” ratchet with a short extension (so you don’t use too much torque). Mine broke loose easily but started to get harder to turn after a couple if turns out. I just kept spraying PB and would go in and out a lil further each time. Probably took 20 mins of screwing in and out / waiting each time I sprayed PB for it to soak in.

New one went in just fine. Problem fixed!

Do you have some close up pics of exactly where the glo plugs are ? I see the plastic T handles.

Are you just referring to the location? That I can see as it was hard to get to the plugs. Cleaned and greased yet the error comes on intermittently with no rhyme of reason.
