Eco Diesel oil change

I’ve had a 2021 Ram 1500 Eco diesel for going on 4 years come June. I haven't driven much, it only has 15000 miles. I haven’t had any real problems other than the dealers and recalls. The truck is a pleasure to drive, but I’m kind of disillusioned with the diesel. The fuel prices fluctuate so much and the oil changes are ridiculous. Adding Deff wipes out any fuel cost savings. I’ve had free oil changes from the dealer for three years but now it's time to pay the piper.
Oil change at a dealer is out of question. I can do it myself but the price of MOPAR filters is crazy. Any recommendations for a good aftermarket filter.
I’m just planning to use Rotella 5W-40 synthetic oil which is expensive enough. I could change the oil on my 2014 Ram Hemi for about 50.00. Now I’m looking at over 100.00 to do it myself.

Sounds like you should do some research on oil compatibility for your year truck. Yup! OEM filters are expensive but weigh that against all the counterfeit stuff out there.
Good luck and take tour time!

This has been my solution since 24K miles (When I bought my '21 ED)..... I'm at 83K miles now.

The Microgard Select filters at O'Reilly are made by Wix and a good filter. They run about $25 for a filter. (https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/select/microgard-select-oil-filter/mgd5/msl10614)

Castrol Edge Eurocar 5W40 meets Chrylser MS-12991 Spec. It is $25 per 5qt. (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Castrol-...-Full-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-5-Quarts/5265004985)

Makes oil change much more palatable. Even the Valvoline quick-lube charges close to $200 for EcoDiesel change, so for under $100 I'll do it myself.

I should clarify my Gen3 ED ('21) is in a Wrangler (not that the engine itself is any different than the Gen3 1500), I also have a Gen2 in an '18 1500.

Try Rock Auto for Ram Oil Filters. Also when I fill up with DEF I go to a truck stop and fill up at the pump. Much more convenient and cheaper

That Castrol is diesel ? Don’t see anything on it or at that website that states it’s diesel

Doc’s Diesel for all of your filters. I get the complete filter kit for less than the price of filter at Dealers or Parts Store. Even using them since first oil change that I had to pay.
2022 Ram Laramie 117,000 miles.

I have a 2022 ecodiesel and I have 63,000km on it. I just wanted to state that my truck uses DEF on average, converted to US dollars, $3.66 / 1000 miles. (2.7Litres of DEF per 1000km and I buy it at the pump for $1.20/Litre 0.75 gallon per 620miles @ $3.22/us gallon of DEF). Very small impact on the better mileage. The cost of oil changes do suck. I do mine for $150 Canadian vs. $300 at a shop or dealer.

I get Wix oil & air filters and MicroGard fuel filter (made by Wix) from O'Reilly, and Rotella T6 from Walmart (about $27/gal). I use Lucas synth oil additive which I also get at Walmart. Cost is about $100 with the Lucas.
