Hello,

Does anyone know the standard oil change intervals for the EcoDiesel engine? I'm assuming 5K + miles correct?

10.5 qts of SAE 5W-30 every 10k mi max. According to the manual it could be as little as 3.5k under severe operating conditions. The display tells you when it thinks an oil change is needed.

It has been available for a couple months at RamTrucks dot com. Go to this link to download manuals. The Ram 1500 Owner's Manual is over 700 pages. The joke is that you will need to buy a second truck to carry the hard copy.

Does the supply actually check the quality of the oil or just mileage can

does the display actually consider the condition of the oil or is it just a mileage counter

Hmmmm. My 2015 RAM 1500 owners manual says 10.5 qts, and the oil is 5w-30 euro with MS 11106 spec. Oil change interval 10,000. Bigfoot , do you have another manual.

Okay thank you, I had watched a U-2 video that said only the Ford system actually looked at the oil quality and the RAM just counted miles.

Correct, mileage counter.

There are lots of Blackstone reports out there that show the spec oils fully protect to the 10000mile intervals FYI.

Yeah the ram no matter what application or hours is only a mile counter. I run about 7k intervals

Diesel engines provide longer maintenance intervals. I change every 10,000 KM intervals.

Diesels require fewer oil changes and maintenance intervals than gasoline engines. Over the life of your diesel, your maintenance frequency will be 40-50% less than gasoline engines.

On the Cummins Engine Typical recommendation is 15,000 miles.

1st change was 3000 miles, to just get the new engine crap out.
2nd change was 7500 miles, oil tested find.
Th change was 17500 miles, oil still tested find.
4th change will be at 27500, coming up on soon.
These are baby miles compared to Shawn. I am only turning 5-6 hundred miles a week,
He dose that in one night. Rock on Shawn.
Looking at the FS2500 oil filter. With that filter you could cut your oik changes down to once an year.
How about that?
At 10,000 miles the oil is almost still bran new,

On my last oil change, the diesel mechanic put a sticker on my corner of the windshield, as to when to come in, in mileage or six months. He allowed, 15,000 KM or six months. That about 9000 miles. Any sooner than 10,000 km (6000 miles), I think is a waste of oil.

The dealership when I had my truck serviced for the first oil change at 7k miles. Put a sticker in the windshield to return at 13k miles I'm not sure this guy even knew what he was working on.

I believe this is the official FCA specs on oil change.

(10,000 miles = 16,000 KM or 1 year on standard diesel up to B5. B8 is 8,000 miles or 10,000 KM about or 6 months)

The EcoDiesel, like many modern vehicles, uses an electronic service monitoring system to identify owners when the engine is in need of an oil change. Fuel filter and water separator service are scheduled at 30,000 intervals, unless a biodiesel blend greater than B5 is used. While the engine is B20 compatible, maintenance will be required more frequently, primarily due to concerns of fuel dilution

• The 3.0L EcoDiesel has made the Ward's 10 Best Engine List for three straight years: 2014, 2015, and 2016.

• Oil changes are required as indicated by the engine's oil monitor system, but should not exceed 10,000 miles or 1 year for engines operating on standard diesel or up to B5 biodiesel fuels. For engines operating on B5 - B20 biodiesel, oil changes should not exceed 8,000 miles or 6 months.

• Fuel filter changes and draining of the fuel water separator is recommended at 30,000 mile intervals for engines operating with standard diesel or up to B5 biodiesel fuels, and 20,000 mile intervals for engines operating on more than B5 biodiesel.

• The engine's PCM monitors the diesel particulate filter (DPF) storage capacity and will reduce engine power once the filter reaches 80% of its max capacity.

Here is what found in the Ram Truck Manual....

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE — 1500 3.0L DIESEL ENGINE

Your vehicle is equipped with an automatic oil change indicator system. The oil change indicator system will remind you that it is time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.

Based on engine operation conditions, the oil change indicator message will illuminate. This means that service is required for your vehicle. Operating conditions such as frequent short-trips, trailer tow, extremely hot or cold ambient temperatures will influence when the “Oil Change Required” message is displayed. Severe Operating Conditions can cause the change oil message to illuminate as early as 3,500 miles (5,600 km) since last reset. Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible, within the next 500 miles (805 km).

NOTE:

Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km), twelve months or 350 hours of engine run time, whichever comes first. The 350 hours of engine run or idle time is generally only a concern for fleet customers.
