ECU Bench flash vs OBDII Plug-in Tuner

Hello folks,
I have a 2016 RAM and was recently diagnosed as having a coolant leak on left-bank Head Gasket. I am going to have both replaced as it makes no sense to disassemble the one side and not do the other. Along with this repair I will also do a "Full Delete Kit". My question is on the tuning method. Is it better to do the bench flash on the ECU or to do the plug-in OBDII tuner for the tuning part of this operation? Any advice would be appreciated.

You are better off asking which tuner people recommend! There are a few you should think twice about before using...

I personally have never heard of that tune or tuner but others may chime in.
The only 2 tunes that I hear of that get consistently good long term reviews appear to be Green Diesel Engineering (emissions intact)
and Eco Diesel Canada (offers a variety of tunes)

I used Empire Diesel. No issues and they have been very helpful. Reasonably priced too with the tune and delete kit. Down side to getting just a bench flash is that if you take your truck back to the dealer for service or recall work, they will flash your ECU with update and that will delete your tune. Definitely recommend the plug and play
