When I took my 2016 ecodiesel to the dealership to replace the recalled EGR cooler, they reprogrammed the computer. The reasons for doing that and the losses of power and fuel economy is well documented, but how does one legally fix the drivability problem imposed on me by FCA without spending a bunch of money? I used to like the truck for its grunt and torque now I don't like driving it. I think the delayed throttle response when the engine is below normal operating temperature in city driving is dangerous.

The million dollar question right there. its the without spending a bunch of money part that is relative. What is a "bunch of money"? The cost of an accident or major engine repair? or the cost of a high quality engine tune...
your choice.
