EGR Cooler was replaced. Whats next?

I have a 2016 with 22,000 miles. Just had the EGR cooler replaced by the dealer. What can I expect next?

very low miles for a 2016 diesel truck. Are you using it rarely and / or just around town?

Just around town. Ive driven it to Colorado and back to California a couple times.

They are not great around town vehicles. They really do better with more miles and getting up to full operating temperature. You are more likely to have DPF problems if you don't do highway driving.

True. While I have only had the DPF filter warning once at 80-90% full, I did drive the truck in 4th gear to keep the RPMs around 2000 until it completed a full regen. I try to get out on the freeway when I can and typically drive in in "tow/haul" mode which makes the truck more drivable in rush hour traffic common in the SF bay area...

Consider investing in a tune such as GDE that turns off EGR and better manages Regens & DEF usage. I believe you will dramatically reduce your risk of having emissions issues especially when regularly using your truck for short commutes.

In fact due to this I believe you will reduce risk of catastrophic bearing failure due to stopping or minimizing bearings oil/lubrication starvation due to soot-sludge, and wear due to hard carbon particles (compliments EGR/EPA) And bearings lubrication from diesel in oil dilution (over 2 percent) from a poor regen strategy and or faulty emissions equipment. IMO that blame can be shared between EPA & FCA.

Full disclosure I have no vested interests in GDE but I have been using their tune for nearly 500,000 miles and their transmission tune since it came out.

PS if post warranty your cooler fails again or leaks coolant Sasquatch sells an EGR cooler delete kit and for a $50 upgrade a GDE tune can eliminate error codes etc associated with deleting the EGR cooler.
