I thought I had read something about this before, but not seeing it, so anyhow.
Would there be the potential for the leaking EGR to be the cause of my turbo failure ??

No and Yes. If the the EGR was leaking internally the Coolant will mixed with the lube VIA combustion chamber, If you are Doing OAs like I have recommended for years on the 3.0 the coolant would have showed on the the Analysis. The OAT/HOAT will mix with the lube and create the lube to become abrasive, if this is the case you will have bigger problems than the turbo failure. Do you have any history of OAs?

The Turbo failure is more likely to be heat related than lube related.
