Exhaust filter

My truck is saying my exhaust filter is 80 percent full do I have to take it to dealership or can I change this myself

Does it do this when it wants to or do you engage it yourself? How do I check to see where it is?

Well you definitely don't want it to get to 100%, that will guarantee a trip to the dealer. You will need some monitoring equipment to actually see the soot levels.
