I was going down the highway with light traffic at 70 mph and decided to look at the gauge cluster readings in the dash .It was 88 degrees out . Coolant was at 206 , trans temp at 181 , oil temp at 219 , oil pressure at 40 psi . All at 2000 rpms . No load . Do these numbers look average compared to others out there ?

Almost exactly what mine shows all the time when not towing.

Ok ,thanks Scottd. was a little concerned with the transmission temp . My 96 Cummins 2500 transmission doesn't even move off the needle running MT but then the sensor is in the pan . The Cummins sure runs a lot higher oil pressure also .

Arnie, our oil pressure is not a true real time reading. It’s some calculation between oil temp, rpm, and who knows what else.

Actually your readings are less than mine on average. I tow a lot, but even when not towing my readings are typically, coolant around 210, trans 194 and oil 216 and this is on a 65 degree day, driving only 20 miles. I think these are way too high! Anyone out there know what is normal? Feel like it should go back to dealer

One thing I had to learn to acclimate myself to seeing was a lesson someone once taught me about the difference between gas and diesel engines
* gas engines you want to get the heat OUT (coolant around 160-190 is ideal)
* diesels you want to keep the heat IN (coolant around 190-208 is normal)

My Trans temperatures seem to mimic oil temps... about 200-208 "warm"

Oil pressure ... there was an old saying that 10psi for every 1000 rpm is enough.
My pasta-diesel on a cold start will do about 40psi, peak at 72psi at about 3000 rpm on a cold engine. 18psi idle, and will normally ride up to 50+ psi during normal acceleration warm.

I hate low numbers for oil pressure, but my engine seems happy with what I've listed for the 2 years I've had it (currently around 116k).
