Need help on purchasing ecodiesel

So i am purchasing an ecodiesel and my shop noticed that there is no cat or dpf. He said it looks clean install so we are both guessing previous owner bought a kit. I am trying to determine if it was done well and right. I am guessing that we should also check

EGR
Is there a way to tell what brand was purchased?

My guess would be gde or something similar. You could drive it and if it throws up a Regen screen it could be gde. If not it could be either gde or sofakingtuned. I suppose you could contact either green diesel engineering or sofaking and see if they have the trucks vin in either of their files.

My major concern is if the work was done well and right. Also if the ECU was reprogrammed and if it wasn’t can I damage anything. I have some pics. I also found out that DEF is disconnected and the O2 is unplugged

If it wasn’t tuned you would have every light in the dash lit up like a Christmas reee. The delete itself is pretty straight forward

Is there any way to determine what was done?

Sticker on the ECM maybe? Otherwise not without some expensive equipment to pull the tune and see what's there... even then you'd need the skill/experience to know what you're looking for.

I would say email some big tuners the VIN# and ask if they tuned it, but I'm not sure you'd get a response with the way that is going these days.

Refer to post 2 on this thread. Truck is tuned contact who manufactures tunes for these engines and see if they can look up the vin.

Is the EGR intact and blocked off or completely removed?

The EGR is capped, electrical connectors, and vacuum line plugged. But no external programmer found.

The place I am buying it from may take it to a local tuner to help figure this out. So Far I know that GDE did not do it

I love a good mystery! I just bought my first ecodiesel about a month ago and had a GDE tune done. the device they gave me can look at the program on the ECU. Maybe there is a shop with a similar devise that can look at the program Information on the ECU? Just a thought.... good luck and let us know what you find.
