That's true, I just got my latest oil, champion Blue flame synthetic diesel oil, it comes in a 2.5gal jug and it was enough to put me in the middle to top of the dip stick. so that half quart is questionable depending on how drained it is.
My engine and Turbo hardly use any oil in a 7k drain interval so I don't need to add in between. God a single jug oil change is awesome after having dumped oil in by single quarts every prior oil change.

But I could see the liter to quart confusion happening easily.

I changed my oil again this past week.
I applied all the suggestions.
Did not pull up on ramps . I left it on flat ground and squeezed under.
I let it drain for 20 minutes.
I purchased the same oil as before.
After adding 9 quarts again, I checked it.
Had to add another quart to get to the full line.
So this time it took 10 quarts to fill.

10 fills mine to a satisfactory level so sounds like you're at the norm now.
