I can't believe I just did this.
Backing up to get into a drive through at the bank, old telephone pole I completely didn't see. And well F***

Almost hit the pole dead on with the hitch which would've taken the entire hit. But no just to the side.

No it's gonna get fixed. But I had high deductible when it's my fault. I'm sure like a 3k insurance job.

Priced out parts it's not bad at all. I expected much worse. Only 270 for a painted bumper from Dodge, 479 for a painted to match tailgate from eBay, new emblems and a tailgate cap probably, so 900 to fix myself. I almost aside. Expected way worse.

Kept the baby, momma and the dogs all safe through the bump though.

Thought it wasn't a big deal with the bumper alone... then I saw the tailgate the second time I looked and omg.

Looks like the pole took a beating too. Oh well I guess, this stuff happens and you move on. Maybe next time you'll check the rear view camera. [emoji41] just kiddin.

I know I almost put the receiver I had in straight onto the pole. I'd have been happier. Wasn't going fast at all but using mirrors not camera.... damn park sensors didn't go off till it hit.

A good rule of thumb when backing is using the triangle method. Driver side mirror, rear view, then passenger side. Then sweep back reverse order. Never just side to side.

Not lecturing, just passing on a tip that I've learned in 14 years on the road.

Topper with kennel and two big dogs in back. Couldn't see too well to notice. I don't use any one method I've never backed into anything before like this but too late. Oops is all I can say

Do you have any pics with your Leer 122. I used to have one on my Dakota, and I wondered what it would look like on this, especially with the Prairie Pearl Coat. Looking to get a cap soon, and I'm debating over a few models...

With that damage, probably yield him at least a day or two suspension....LOL

Hahahaha. Well I don't have my cheat card handy to recite the whole thing. But yes you are correct on the days off. At our center it's at least a few days. Then if brought back in service it's a few weeks of revisiting your accident as an example to others in the daily PCMs.

I had the exact thought but eBay painted to match tailgate for 479$ beats the hell out of 455 for a tailgate + Paint

Did this on a concrete pole with backup camera on.



At least I did not hurt the pole. Also pounded it out a bit with a 2 x 4 and hammer. Thin bumper makes things possible.

My biggest issue here now is seeing if the tailgate can be saved. I have the mopar factory spray in bed liner and no one does it. It's basically unavailable after production line with the exception of a touch up kit. I even called FCA direct.

So if I replace it I have a spray in liner on the tailgate that doesn't match at all. Great for a 6 month old truck.

I basically told FCA I want a Service part off the assembly line but was told I have to go Work with the dealer specifically the management to get this to happen. Or any result

Yea, good catch.. I didn't even think about the bed liner, or it not matching. Are you going to ask your dealer about getting the factory tailgate?

Good luck repairing that tailgate. I put a boat trailer tongue through my old Cummins 2500 tailgate. Last time I rely on someone else to do a proper hook-up. It could be fixed but the price was more than getting a used tailgate from the junkyard and painting/badging it to match.
