P0133 and P22fa trouble code

Has the p0133 o2 sensor slow to react come up and I reset a few times and it kept coming back. A couple of days later I got a second code p22fa nox sensor not working. Weird to lose 2 sensors at the same time so I thought I would take them out and see what they looked like. I have read where many engines diesel and gas and all makes have had this issue. I looked all over for information on location and easiest way to take them out but came up with conflicting information. So I will share what I did and what I have learned and maybe it will help someone else. First how many sensors and where are they. I can only speak to 2017. One o2 sensor and one nox sensor. They are located on the passenger side of the truck on the exhaust as it starts to turn down. The o2 sensor requires a 1 3/16 inch wrench and is very easy to remove. Remove the right side tire and pull back the thin inner finder and it is the sensor with the huge nut and point toward the front of the truck. The nox is on the opposite side of the same pipe pointing slightly to back of truck. It is a 7/8. The nox is much harder to remove.

I started by disconnecting the battery. I had no intention to unplug the sensors and did not have to in order to clean. I then removed the passenger side tire and accessed them by pulling out the inner finder. I did not remove the finder just pulled it back out of the way. I then removed the o2. See pic. The sensor had about a 1/16 inch of carbon on it. No way it could work. Notice you cannot even see the holes in the tip. 20200919_142025_compress7.jpg

I used this to clean them and it worked great. I know others use carburetor cleaner but my thought was its an electronic sensor and this is made for those type things. Could be the same exact stuff?? I reinstalled the sensor and reconnected the battery. Reset the codes and so far so good. I will update again in a couple of days.

The story continues. Drove about 40 miles this weekend. The P22fa is still good. The o2 sensor now has a heater failure fault. I was able to get my scan tool to display the live data coming from the o2 sensor and it is dead. I had no feedback. I ordered yesterday and should be here Wednesday. I also now have the message that DEF system needs service see dealer and a new cell. Attached below.

So here is update. The o2 sensor replaced. The nox sensor cleaned and have had no more 02 fault or nox faults. I do still have a fault p2297. I was chicken to tighten the nox sensor because I had no anti sieze. I think it is leaking there and I will tighten that this weekend

Update. P2297 still an issue. Checked for leaks on exhaust and found none. I did see that the ecu has a date of 2015 on when I look at it with code reader. The truck is a 2017 does that sound correct?

Most likely it’s fine. The ecm in these trucks is the same for 2014-18
