This is my first time posting. Like many of you, it is because I have a concern about the maintenance of my truck and I don't trust what my dealership service department is telling me. My truck is a 2017 Ram Ecodiesel with just over 30,000 kms. In August I had my oil changed at the dealership as part on my extended warranty package. There were staffing issues in the service department that day. Long story short, the service on my truck was postponed to the end of the day, just before closing. The oil change, lube and tire rotation were completed in 1/2 an hour After a few hundred kms of driving, I noticed my Oil Life Indicator had dropped 4% already. After driving 2000kms I received a notice that my oil life was 0% and required changing. I was suspicious that the dealer put in the wrong oil, so I took a sample for analysis before taking it back to the dealer. I have attached the description of the problems the dealer found and the oil analysis. Am I right to still suspect that the wrong oil was put in my truck?
Alum. 2.1 PPM
Copper 1.4 PPM
Sounds good to me. Blackstone Universal averages are 6 PPM for alum. and 3 PPM for copper.
Dilution of oil with diesel fuel is usually caused by excessive active regeneration caused by short trip driving especially in cool temps. Change your oil more frequently or stop taking short trips. Or do a full delete and never worry about it again. My understanding is that this is the central "flaw" in the ecodiesel's regeneration method. Isuzu's small engine (Chevy) injects the fuel further downstream so it does not have this problem. It will be interesting to see if the 2019 / 2020 Ram handles regen different.Hmmm, this one is not quite as good as the first 2! Any thoughts or input? What would contribute to increased fuel levels?
