Unfortunately, the tuner companies won't provide the changes that they make, so you are at their mercy and it easy to say, it not their fault and/or you take the risk 100 percent.

I wondered how they can claim to reduce DEF consumption? I did notice, when the engine is running very hot, even when not calling for REGEN, the EGT3 and EDG3 temperature climb to 1000 F or so, the DEF consumption drops in that the Soot level stays at the same level for miles and only climbs when temperature drop down to normal levels. I would suspect longevity of the engine would be reduce due to high heat for long periods.

More power, means more fuel, more heat, I would think. Maybe just removing the catalytic only would do the same, but with less heat? Though not legal!

I will keep on researching! So far FCA failed to respond to my inquiry and/or refuse to answer my questions.

Hopefully they aren't hiding anything?

We got our first cold weather week, below freezing and a dusting of snow. I did notice that the engine does take a lot of driving to warm up to normal operating temperatures. Takes a few stops to get to normal temperatures. I did notice that when it was calling for REGEN, the EGT 3 and EGT 4 was too cold and couldn't climb to 1000 F. As a result, for the first time I did get a notice of Filter full at 80 percent. Fortunately, I was on a longer trip and the message stayed until it drop to 10 percent. I wonder what to expect when we get our real cold weather. Keep you posted. I'm at 12k km at this time.

Going to check with the dealer, which radiator thermostat is installed on the unit. They use to have summer and winter units, not sure if that valid with the Eco Diesel. Don't real want to play with hood covers.

You're in Canada a grill cover isn't really something you get the option to play with or not. It's a necessary evil.

Temps in the 30s I can barely hit 200F
30 minutes of idling and 20 minutes of in town driving this morning my coolant temps were again dropping at idle. And this is with my grill partially covered.

0 C/32 F is the sweet spot just as FCA says. Hit that temp and it just won't get to operating temp.

Evidence from this morning at the end of trip. Temps were mid 150s before a last few minutes of idling

Will get dealer to check the thermal control. However, probably will need a cover when it get real cold.

Online info is saying this;

The active grill shutters is used for increased fuel economy (reduced drag) and for faster warmups (also better economy). They are thermally controlled not speed sensitive.

"The Ram 1500 is the first truck to use an active grille shutter system (similar to the one on Dart), closing airflow through the grille when cooling is not needed. It increases gas mileage by 0.5%, cuts drag roughly 4%, and cuts warm-up time/defrost time. The computer closes the shutters when cooling is not needed."

Active Grill Cover. All of the ED's have them.
They are hard to see. But it's on the top half, just behind the grill.

In the meantime, I will do some research on front covers.

This one seems nice...

Look familiar? It's the same one. The active grill shutters only cover the top half of the grill. And I've been running like this since late summer. One more 50 degree weekend coming then the top is going on. If not today.

Yes, I was aware "active grill shutters only cover the top half of the grill." Are you saying, it comes with bottom and top covers and you have left the bottom cover on all year.

Look a bit different, price at 179.00 Canadian, seem high price.

That's the price and it is the same. The only "difference" is that he has one of the small panels installed that you would open for towing that allows some air through the lower openings. I don't have any of those covered yet. It is the same truck and same product.

I installed my lower covers when temps were dropping and it helped but we've had a weird season and I had some high fall temps into the 80s after I put on the lower panels and I was fine temp wise.

We live in Calgary, Alberta. We get lots of Chinook's, warm wind, happen all winter. Occasionally get a cold snap. But we do lots of driving in the Rockies, Banff, Yoho, Jasper, Revelstoke, etc. Notice you have the BFG KO2 tires. We had our installed yesterday. Did a 80 km trip today, pavement is dry and temperature is 5 Celsius this morning. The tires are as quiet as the originals. So far, seem perfect. The original tires, look wimpy. Not it look more like a truck.

I talked to Precision Truck Accessories, and they have it in stock, part number is: P371678 for the 13-16 RAM 1500 SLT/OUTDOORSMAN/SXT/ST at 179.00 plus shipping.

There is a dealer in Calgary, Action Truck, formerly Custom Truck for 184.00, no shipping if you pick it up at their store.

I notice several dealer are available in US. So, you can get it there for resident of US. Try local search for (PDM P3716578)

I haven't ordered mine yet, as I going to check a few other options and have truck check out first, when I bring it for Oil Change later this month.

I did talk to dealer and FCA doesn't use seasonal thermostat for the rads. They strongly recommended covers of sorts, as diesel have very large cooling capacity rads due to heat of the engine, especially in summertime.

As for the BFG KO2 tires, my wife text me, as she drove by my truck, and remark, they look sexy. LOL

Precision has a ton of distributors in Canada but only one in the states. Rocky mountain truck accessories of Montana.

But I put the upper half of my cover on earlier this week finally. Hoping it stays cool enough I don't have to open a panel back up.

My cover was 176cad from action truck in Winnipeg. Otherwise it was ~185usd from rocky mountain truck in the states plus 35 to get it drop shipped to me from precision. I couldn't face 220usd shipped when it was ~146$usd converted from Winnipeg. Though it would've been easier to stay home

I don't quite understand this thread. I am not talking about all the regen related topics but the regen question itself. My 2015 displays it in the dash. Tells me when I am at 80%, 90% and when regen is in process. Does not every truck have that?

Every truck does that under a lot of city driving where it cannot complete a normal regen cycle. But that is essentially an emergency regen. Typically it is done by the truck during normal driving. Called a passive regen. The evic message is telling you it needs to do it NOW because it's too restricted and hasn't gotten up to temp to burn off the soot in the dpf/scr

Winter fronts are tied into this because if you're in cold climates and your truck isn't getting up to temp then your exhaust isn't reaching high enough temps to regen. Typically your truck needs to be completely up to temp
