Hello everyone I wanted to get some honest opinions. I currently have a 2015 with the 5.7. It is a base model no frills like at all. With my level and 34in tires I am only getting about 17mpg if I'm nice to it. I have a jumping jack trailer i use to tow my rzr, about 5000lbs total, and when I tow I get less than 10mpg down to 6-7 in the mountains. I want a nicer truck with better mileage and started looking at the ED and a cummins. With a cummins ibget probably same mileage as a DD and better mileage towing. With the ED I get much better mileage DD and up to 14ish while towing. After reading the forums I'm a little concerned at the reliability of the ED. Would be able to get a tune right off the lot but still concerned. So would you get the cummins and suffer the lower DD mileage or get the ED and tune it right away. Either would be laramie trim level.

Get the Cummins, the 3.0VM will not hold value , forget about tuning the EPA is aggressively Shutting down all tuners and will eventually get them all....

The 3.0 does well in 90% Hwy use and 50-50 Driving will suck up your wallet. Even My ED needed repairs at 40K Miles, and the AME only covers Specific Parts.

Their is No savings $ in the 3.0VM, On a side Note My 2019 Limited replaced the ED, the Mileage is surprisingly great.

If you drive 65MPH it will gets 21/23MPG , 70MPH 19/21, 75MPH 18/19 , 80MPH 17/19, 85MPH 15/17.

My 3.0 did get 30MPG at 65MPH, Avg generally 27-29MPG, Speeds above that it dropped sharply , 75-80MPH it was down to 22/23MPG , above 80MPH 19/21MPG.

My mixed City/Hwy 17-18MPG ED, My 2019 5.7 14/17MPG.

The 2020 3.0 is has more complex Emissions and more parts to replace, that Dual EGR has been tried and dropped by all other makers.

YES, if the part/engine/vehicle is on US Soil, Canada also recognizes the EPA Standards..The EPA has no legal grounds to take action in Canada or Germany, Both Countries allow extraditions if legally filed and approved. VM is in Italy, but owned fully by Fiat.

Thanks for the info. Whatever truck I get will be on a level with 34-35s I just want a little luxury and to tow at more than 7 miles a gallon. For people who know "the gauntlet" or Ike or whatever it's called on YouTube I drive that every other weekend in the summer. My 5.7 pulls it but to maintain speed I'm at a high rpm. The only other option I guess would be the 2500 with the larger hemi.

The 6.4 Won't pull like the Cummins. and You will be seeing 7- MPG with the 6.4 Pulling.

the hemi empty I get 11-12 in the PA mts. pulling I get 8-9 the best I got was 15 going on the interstate will pass any thing but a fuel stop

I never imagined this would be such a tough decision. I have found good ED and 2500 in my price range. Even some new ED but I'm scared of the reliability. Wish I could afford a 2020.

I do admit the 2020 Eco Looks appealing, Diesel being one of My professions is just to risky until proven.

The Ram Truck Trans is awesome, the 3.0 Plus the emission at additional cost will take years and 150K+ of NO repair cost just to break even.

So what you are saying is look for a Cummins and avoid the ED for a few years haha. Mostly gonna be a DD that's why I was leaning towards the ED. But with all these reliability issues it makes me reluctant.
