Trailer brake module 2018 eco diesel

Has anyone used an after market trailer brake module? Huge difference in pricing between after market and mopar.

I’m using a Primus aftermarket brake control module on my 2019 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. I’ve had no problems with it at all towing a 26 foot, 4900lb travel trailer with dual brakes.

I added an aftermarket trailer brake controller to my 2016 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel shortly after buying it in 2023. It looks and acts just like I'd expect the OEM controller to behave. Installation was a little tricky, especially reprogramming the vehicle to recognize it. But as you say, I saved a bunch of dough.

It works fine, except the dashboard display says "Trailer brake not connected" whenever I depress the brake pedal, either with or without the trailer brakes connected. I took it to a dealer to see if they could do anything about it. They charged me $100 to tell me they couldn't do anything about it because it's not OEM.

I bought OEM module and switch for around 200$ through a dealer, used Alfa obd to enable the trailer brake settings and screens in my 14 Laramie and works flawlessly. I thought about aftermarket but tracking trailer mileages and keeping the brake settings per trailer was worth it to me.

That was a good choice. The best price I see for a 2016 OEM is about $340, whereas I paid well under $100 for the aftermarket controller. In hindsight, I wish that I'd sprung for the OEM, but if I was living on Social Security, I might think otherwise.

I called 2/3 dealers for pricing and was suprised at cost differences. One sold a bundle while another sold individually priced items. Deff no consistency in pricing. But a lot of guys run aftermarket controllers and rant and rave over it. Anything is bettter than nothing!!!

Hello, new to the group here. I have a 2016 Laramie and used a aftermarket control. I bought it and took it the dealer to have it installed. Charged me 50 dollars to install and world fantastic.
