I owned a 2016 eco diesel . I’ve been reading a lot of information regarding these trucks. I’m not going to even try to pretend that I understand about mechanics, engines, etc.
I purchased the truck new. Took it back to origin of purchase for maintenance/repairs. Until 4 weeks ago I was very happy with the truck.
I received a message via radio that I had to consent to a update (over the air). At first I chose to ignore the update since it didn’t concern the mechanics of the truck. Much to my aggravation my stero was “held hostage “. So I did the update. The next morning exactly same thing. Mandatory update or no radio.😡. I did the update then the truck went into limp mode. I couldn’t get it to go over 50 mph. So I contact the dealership who asked me to bring it in. At 50mph that was the longest 22 miles I’ve driven. So the dealership has it a few days and finally contacts me stating the code is : service electric throttle control and that I need new injectors. This was done. Picked the truck up. Drove it home no issues. Two days later I drive the truck again Long story short, within 15 miles the truck is back in limp mode (nothing on dash) no warning. Now I’m really angry. Next thing I know the truck is in flames. Several people used fire extinguishers to not effect. Even fire department had a time putting it out. It literally went from a small fire somewhere under the hood to totally engulfed within a 3 minute period.
The terrifying thing is that at first I didn’t know it was on fire. A gentleman pulled up beside me screaming I was on fire. When I pulled off the road and put the truck in park the cab filled with black smoke. Within 3 minutes it was gone.
Our insurance company has stated that it was not the injectors. They think it started somewhere under the battery or in that area.
Insurance doesn’t want to pay for “specialist” . I filed a claim with Chrysler and supposedly one of their inspectors went out yesterday . Haven’t heard from them yet. Anyone else had this trauma ?

What I didn't add to my EGR thread , I have confirmed (2) owners have had their ED burn Hrs after shutting down.

Many owners do not desire to join forums, although they frequent them, I received a burn down call yesterday the ED was Park in His drive way and Hrs later Drive by'er call the Fire dept and some stopped and beat on his door , in the middle of the Night that his truck was on Fire...

Before I returned My ED to Fiat, My wife ask to leave that truck outside, She heard ( listen to My Phone discussions) and saw many pictures on My Screen.

Its a shame My wife had to be concerned about fires. Yes vehicle catch on fire by rodents and poor engine Hygiene maintenence.. It shocks Me on American engine Hygiene practice's ,I see engines SO fifthly I see why they catch on fire, plus all the damage caused by road chemicals, Its not much effort to lift the Hood and spray it down with soap and rinse once a month.

My 3.0 look like this 4.25 Years old.

I purchased my 2016 Ecodiesel new, it was just under 70k miles and mine did the same thing as yours this past Friday 10/25/19. I was commuting home on the highway, lost all power, it started to shake, i pulled over, looked under the hood and there was no fire. I was in the process of calling the dealership for a tow truck and 30 seconds later flames were coming out of the engine compartment. I’ve always kept up on the maintenance, never installed any aftermarket parts, and always went in for the updates and recalls.

This is getting to be far to common. I'm glad there hasn't been any serious injuries.

I'm glad I don't own one... And no One has been Injured... I installed a Fuel bypass Filtration system on My ED, It has T&C Stickers on it... I bet the owner doesn't even know what the switch on the Dash is for....I gave standing orders for the Selling Dealer Mgnt to Make Darn sure the Buyer contacts Me on how to use.

The Bypass is controlled by the OEM electronics..... But if it catches on Fire ( Engine running) and the Owners leave the Switch on it could feed the Fire until the engine is shut down.......You just can't ever lower the risk in the 3.0VM. Ownership. Now it bothers Me that I just did NOT shut it down until the Buyer contacted Me.

So if you bought a 2015 Gray/Silver 2015 Laramie June/July 2019 at Coon Rapid Chrysler its in your best interest to call Me. if you read this Thread.

Well it sure seems that "warm" fuzzy feeling you get with a good Ecodiesel is more warm than fuzzy.

Now I can't be impartial as i traded mine off for a new Cummins in early September. This was before all this recall, EGR and another merger stuff came out. To me it was a wonderful vehicle for the 5 1/2 years and 114,000 miles I owned and used it. Was a bit sad when I drove out with another Cummins, which I had before the Ecodiesel.

If I still owned it today all this stuff would have me thinking.
