Turbo problems

I have a 2017 Ram eco diesel with 78,000 miles, always regular maintenance and recalls handled at Dodge dealer. On a recent trip, it showed message that said “service electronic throttle control” and I lost significant power, acted like it had a governor on it. We found a dealer on the route and they were able to get it in for diagnostic. They said “your turbo is dirty and needs replaced. $5000 and not covered under warranty”! Obviously I was quite upset to have this news at only 78k miles. We were able to drive home (200 miles) at highway speeds but continued to show message and loss of power. Taking in for 2nd opinion at local dealer this week. Anyone else have this issue or know anything about it? Is turbo replacement really the only option? Thanks.

Did it throw any codes? Idk how they condemned the turbo for being “dirty” when it’s nearly impossible to inspect and a bore scope would most likely not get a good angle to see inside of it. Most likely boost leak from one of the intercooler hoses

Update: Temper126, you’re 100% correct. Got a second opinion today at different dealer and they correctly diagnosed as boost leak from hoses, they replaced hoses and sensors and had me out of there in 1 1/2 hours and less than $1000. Glad I came back to my local dealer and got a corret diagnosis, big relief.

The last time I had mine in for service the Eco tech at the dealership I deal with told me he had not had to replace a turbo on any Eco Diesels to that point. These are pretty reliable engines most internal issue are due to the EGR system the U.S.A. made them put on before allowing them to be sold here, or places putting the wrong oil in them.
