Hello Fellow Eco Owners,

I have had my 2017 1500 Eco since June 2018. Bought new and have only used Shell Rotella T6 5w-40. Unfortunately I can't find any to buy today and need an oil change ASP.

I have found 15w-40 Rotella T6.... Can I use it for one oil chage?

Have searched high and low for every other 5w-40 diesel oil and no luck.

Recommendations?

Note - From Dallas Texas area but currently in Tampa FLorida area for a couple weeks.

I just ordered from Amazon as I have a 2021 and Ram is specific on the oil requirements thus it might work for your 2017 ($43.28 for six quarts - ridiculous but I couldn't source any locally in southeast Texas):

The Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic oil is specific for Diesel engine applications. I do not see any information on the Pennzoil 5W-40 synthetic oil that refers to being for diesel engines.

Did you check out the back of the bottle where it states "For Diesel and Gasoline Engines" as well as the MS-12991 SPEC compliance? The 2020-2022 Ecodiesel's require utilization of oil meeting Chrysler Spec MS-12991 (which the Pennzoil Platinum 5W40 does but Rotella T-6 does not...at this time). The OP has a 2017 Ecodiesel which doesn't require MS-12991 but was seeking a 5W40...and I'm not indicating T-6 is not a good oil as I consider it to be one of the best but not for the 2020-2022 ED.

Engine Oil — 3.0L Turbo Diesel EngineWe recommend you use 5W-40 synthetic engine oil such as Mopar® that meets the manufacturer Material Standard MS-12991 and the API SN engine oil category is required.

Amsoil. There is a distribution center in your home town. Probably have it delivered overnight.

I ordered VALVOLINE SYNTHETIC PREMIUM BLUE EXTREME when I used my last 3 gallons of T-6 , the valvoline meets all the specs including the latest specs for CUMMINS. I hate changing brands, but I hate not having enough on hand to do at least one oil change. Hopefully this resolves soon.

I have used the 15w-40 when I couldn’t find the 5w-40, I’ve had no ill effects, always Rotella T6 though.

It should be mentioned this is not a wise idea if you live in a colder climate this time of year.

True! I’m in central texas with near 100 degree days, the viscosity stays thin, I wouldn’t do it during the colder time of the year, and I only did it when I absolutely had to. I think I would rather wait and keep running past 10k miles if that was my only choice and it was cold.

Yes it is. I have been running Mobil one reg in various diesels. Just make sure it says api-ck4 for eco diesel full synthetic. Rock auto has it in stock for 30$ per gallon. That's where I get it for mine. 124000 on motor
