Figured this warranted an update...I am no longer an EcoDiesel owner. Got into a 2020 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 gas engine. I looked at the GM 3.0 diesels, but was advised by a friend close to the subject to avoid being a gueinna pig again for an "unproven" engine (they're already coming in to the...
Last month (March 23rd) my truck was towed to the local dealership. EGR failure and a spun main bearing (https://www.ecodieselram.com/forum/threads/well-it-happened.4141/).
Today (4/15) I picked it up from the dealership with a complete engine replacement that thankfully was 100% warranty...
I have 35,000 miles that will roll over to the new engine from my current warranty. I will sell or trade in my truck at around 30-33k miles. Cant risk this happening again and coming out of pocket.
The dealership ordered one the day after the tow truck dropped it off. I called 3 days later and they said the new engine was ordered, was en route to the dealership and it would be ready in 2 weeks.
Said it was a failed EGR and coolant got into the engine oil...the "common" problem for these...
Engine is 100% stock. All I added to my truck was running boards, wheels and a leveling kit. It was overly well-maintained by myself and never driven hard. I wasn’t naive to these potential issues and did everything I could to make this truck last as long as it could.
Just had my '15 take a $hit on my at just over 83k miles. EGR issue...had it towed to the closest dealership and they called me this morning saying they ordered a new engine. I asked if it was the new gen 2 or the old gen 1, was told it's the gen 1 with the new EGR system. Has anyone had success...
WOW...so yeah...the engine is done. BUT...100% warranty covered! The dealership said they'll have my truck for probably 2 weeks. Ordered a new gen 1 engine with the new, improved EGR system.
I have 2 warranties still in place - my 100,000 mile extended from original purchase as well as the 120,000 power train that came with the class action settlement. I have just over 83k miles on mine.
What do you “likely” think it is? Complete engine replacement?
I’ve been raving about my EcoDiesel for the past 4 years, posting about how flawless mine has been (for the most part), and genially optimistic that I bought a “good one”.
Well...driving on the freeway today, 70-75 for about an hour and I suddenly hear a ticking sound with NO warning...one...
It's been 9-10 months since the first time I saw this code - I was fairly certain that my repair back then was solid.....until a week and a half ago. Code popped up, drove it to dealership and I left for a 2 week work trip - told my dealership to take their time to ensure it's fixed properly...
2015 bought new from dealer in April of 2016 (steal of a price being an "older" truck)
Just got 50,000 miles on it
Had the "electronic throttle control" message pop up around 25-30k - dealership fixed under warranty and said a boost sensor failed. No issues since replacing.
Do my own oil...
I have the Sinister Diesel fuel cap - I liked the unique look of this one over the others ive seen.

Here's a big ol thread on this message. I got it and the dealership said it was a bad boost sensor. No issues since it's been replaced.

What is the widest tire that can go on an 18x9 inch wheel? My Eco has a 2-inch leveling kit installed and clearance doesn't seem to be an issue, within reason.
Right now my 275/70 KO2's seem small in the wheelwell. Id like to go a little taller as well as wider if possible. Suggestions?
