I'm headed from Southeast Texas to Michigan in about a week, I'm really anxious to see how this truck will do on mpg for such a long trip that is all highway. On 350mile all highway trips unloaded/not towing I've seen upwards of 28mpg.
It doesn't seem like its been over a year ago when I bought my 2014 eco used, have put about 37,000 miles on it to date. I have experienced some of the code issues that other have related but being a mechanic I have the luxury of investigating my own codes, so far all have been non issues. However my fuel mileage dropped approximately 2mpg when I got the flash for the oil change, that still nets 24 mpg average summer and 22 mpg average winter, straight highway still see 26.5 mpg. I don't see that mileage as an issue. All I have to do is talk to my son who bought the 2014 Chevy crew cab with 5.3L 4x4, who struggles to net 16 mpg average and 19 mpg highway. Lets just say I am confident enough that I just bought my wife a 2016 JEEP ecodiesel this week.
So many factors that affect MPG ... I live in the Denver area and I am not convinced that altitude doesn't affect it, plus I have the 3.92 rear axle with 4x4, and during winter I was averaging 19 in town, in summer more like 22-23. Best I ever saw was driving around Yellowstone NP cruising around 35 mph, and I watched the mpg creep up to the low 30s .... I just got the GDE tune and my winter fuel mileage has improved to 22-23 city. I try to use the cruise control as much as possible on my commute, as it seems to help the avg. When I purchased the vehicle the salesperson advised accelerating quickly then hitting cruise to get the best mileage. Sounded like some BS, but I have not tried it for any length of time, so it might be a fun test...
drove 133 highway miles-65 each way-28 mpg going-25 mpg coming back-that was 75 miles an hour speed limit on I-40 in Arizona-truck is slightly over 300 miles-not close to be broken in as yet-i was a happy camper until i talked to a guy at a fuel stop-his eco blew up with 21000 on the odo-under warranty thank goodness!
I just bought mine. 2015 crew 4wd. Getting between 22-24.5mpg so far. Any ideas to improve mpg? It has 70k and bought from lot. Will tuner help mpg. Wanna squeeze as many miles I can out of every drop of fuel!
