Researching on line I also found the Kendall. I found a place north of me (about 70 miles) in PA that sells it by the drum. Its just over $1K for a drum but doing the math its about 1\2 the cost of buying it by the quart or roughly 11 free oil changes if I remember my math correctly. I'm seriously thinking about buying an entire drum.
I'll split a drum with you. :) now only to figure out the distance issue

No kidding and I'm rural by Canadian Border here.

Anyways you should probably make sure that you're quoting a 55 gallon drum and not the 30-40(I can't remember what exactly oil drum standard size is anymore) so you know what cost analysis you're really giving yourself

Dingo, if you buy a drum will you use it fast enough to keep it fresh? I belive if you let it sit long enough it will separate. I am doing my oil changes at 5k. No way am I going 15k between oil changes.

At 5k change intervals, you might be ok going with a 55 gallon drum.

I have routinely gone 10k between oil changes in other vehicles and not had a problem. This was while using synthetic. I do mostly highway driving 100 mile round trip commute so doing oil changes every 5 K would get to be a bit too often. I do mine when the truck tells me it needs done. I did think about the oils sitting but didn't think oil would get ''stale" or separating. Ill have to do more research on it or split a drum with someone.

Yea I stick to 10k interval as well.

Just for reference if it hasn't been said before, the oil life monitor is based solely on 10000 miles since reset. Takes in no other factors such as driving stress or time/temperatures, oil condition etc etc.

*I read that on the internet so it has to be correct. [emoji41]

Took this picture of the oil life monitor in a 2006 Cadillac that was towed into my shop with the engine seized due to an engine oil related failure. This is not the first time I have seen this nor the first time I have seen this result of 10 oil changes in 100k miles. Just another FYI kinda thing. Still sticking to 5k oil changes

Yeah if I get over 7k I start getting uncomfortable feeling about it... I like 6-7k range. A periodic fuel drain and a fuel filter every other oil change. Very reasonable maintenance costs

My local Advanced Auto Parts had I think 8 qts in stock at last check and it wasn't cheaper then some of the web deals. So I just order it.

Web is your best friend.

Locally nothing is stocked and the only thing that I can get from local car quest is liquiMoly and it's expensive from retail store like that.

If you're going to do your own changes and aren't looking to purchase in bulk then online ordering is absolutely best

Awesome. I've toyed with the idea too, but so far the biggest I've purchased is a 40-liter. Drums are a bit too heavy and unwieldy for my shop.

Can anyone point me in the direction for the correct drain valve to replace my plug? Possibly a link? Thanks

So today I came across this....
https://amzn.com/B017OAZSIC

I have yet to have done my own oil and I just reached 23k miles. The first time I had it done was a promotion price in Pittsburgh, PA at $130. The second time in Carlsbad, NM I was just strapped for time. I'm working 6 sometimes 7 day a week and traveling about 120 miles a day. In very dusty and sandy conditions at that. I got it changed around 7500 miles and paid the full $200 that time.

I've since ordered about 5 different oil filters all from the recommendations I've found here at ecodieselram.com. Both dealerships I have used have used the Pennzoil Platinum Euro L. I purchased 2QT's from them separately just in case. They told me they get in from AutoZone if they run out. I ran over to AutoZone and had them scan my bottle. What they have is NOT the same thing! Which worries me just exactly what dealerships are doing when they run out.

I do not by any means consider myself cheap and prefer not to take any shortcuts when it comes to the warranty and life of at $69k truck. So paying a few extra dollars for oil is no big deal. But of course saving a few dollars is nice too. I prefer Mobil 1 and I notice no issues with Pennzoil. I'm not generally familiar with Kendall products but the meet the standards. The question, does this price seem right? $75.42 after shipping for 12QT's of oil seem right to anyone else? Or is this just a rare steal?

Thank in advance!

I purchased that same item about a month ago. Came really well packaged. The case of oil was in another box with foam peanuts all around.
