Tire question

I ordered a 2018 ecodiesel Outdoorsman and should get it soon, the truck comes stock with the 17" chrome rims and" E " rated tire . I upgraded the rims to 20" to get the black rims but I just realized
that this option downgraded the tires to "P" tire, they didnt't tell me this when I ordered the truck, the result is tires which are rated about 500 lbs less carrying weight per tire.
I will be towing a 24" travel trailer with a loaded weight of about 5000 LBS. plus passengers, driving from ontario to Alaska this summer.
In your opinion should I be concerned and should I have the 17" E rated tires or are the "P" 20" adequate or will they be much less solid on the road and less durable? Thanks

image.jpeg image.jpeg The load on the P tires will be fine in my opinion. The problem is the tires that will come on the truck will be Goodyear Wrangler SRA. They are really cheap highway tires that suck terrible bad in snow or really on any unpaved surface.

I traded my stock tires in on a good set of Toyo Open Country's and after a year and a half, couldn't be happier with the Toyos.

Thanks, What is the load rating on your Toyo Open Country'S
I may be wise to get rid of the wranglers and put those on before the trip.

The ones I have are P rated also, but they do have E rated options as well if that is important to you.

Since your truck hasnt even arrived yet, I would think if you expressed your concerns with your dealer, they should offer you a pretty reasonable deal to trade the OEM tire for one you would be happy with.

Right, I will talk to them about it.

So far I haven't found a tire of my size, 275/60R20 that has a higher weight rating, if Toyo has one I didn't see it on their web site.
I guess I'd be changing them to get better quality and not for the weight rating.
I do very little off road and winter driving.

I suppose I can sell the 20" black tires and rims as new and go to an aftermarket 17"rim and "E" tire, Then the speedo would need calibrating right? I believe the 17" are 31" and 20" are 33 OD.

This size 17" has the same dimensions as your stock 20"
285x70-17 is 33”x11.5”

There are LT tire choices in 275/60R20 but not factory options. Pro Comp at sport, nitto exo grabber, nitto dura grapper, all are an Lt rated tire with load range E. Bfg K02 is an Lt rated tire with a D load range as well. Any P rated tire well be prone to punctures if used off road its just what 4 ply tires do.

I've been doing a lot of research , I'm considering the General Grabber HTS60 tires, I can stay true to the original size of 275/60R20s
They seem to have real good reviews and bring the rated load from 2600 lbs to 3000LBS per tire, also brings up the maximum air pressure from 44 lbs to 51 lbs. Still classed as a P tire but getting closer to a D rated.
Since I won't be towing or loading exeedingly heavy maybe these would work and I may not absolutely need an E rated tire. In fact the E tires might ride rough for nothing.
What do you think?

If I wasn't going to upgrade to an all terrain, I wouldn't do anything at all.

I agree with MSP548 Toyo's ,Back when I had access to tire warranty, The corporation sold 8 million $ per month Toyo warranty VS ratio sold. was never beaten, they simply are one of best (All around) tire's on the road.

Ok thanks, I'm listening, what do you guys think of Michelin Defender LTX M/S ? I had them on my Cummins and liked them.
The size I'm looking at is LT 265/60R20
They'd be 1/2" shorter than originals at 32 1/2", speed rating R, 3195 LB rating.

TC, I'm a bit slow on the acronyms, EVIC ??

I do like the Toyo Open Countrys but since I don't off road and 99% of my driving is towing my 24" travel trailer on paved roads I feel like the Michelin Defenders may be a better choice.

Michelin's another good choice , OBSERVE GSI-5 Load Index 114-2601LBS, Passenger. They sure have been messing with tire ratings the last 5 Years.

I wanted that tire in the worst way, but I wasn't willing to risk it rubbing in the front so I stuck with the P rated stock size. How do they fit up front, any rubbing? Is your suspension altered at all?

They fit nice with plenty of room. My truck does has a leveling kit on the front.
