For me it’s all about economics and reputation. The Ecodiesel story is going to continue to get worse before it gets better. In other words, do you want to own something no one is willing to buy? Not me, I want my vehicle to retain an acceptable resale value. And I want to own a vehicle I...
You should be writing 60 Minutes, 20/20, and the like. Nothing ever gets done until the public shaming that news outlets like that can deliver.
The unfortunate side effect is you will own a truck no one will buy.
I’m not an expert at all. I would just encourage you to read about all the problems the Eco diesels are having in the short time they have been in production.
I think once you do, you might just keep that $2500 in your back pocket instead of spending it on a turbo mod. You may need that money...
I would just caution you about doing anything with this power plant with the intent to garner more power. These engines do not have a good track record under normal operating conditions. I don’t imagine they hold together any better by souping them up.
Never was talking to you. I was talking to Brewsky, who started the thread, and bought a ‘14 with 100K miles. Why do you suppose the previous owner chose now to unload it? Hmm
It was meant to be very constructive fatherly advice. You are thinking with emotion. Think like an accountant. How much are you willing to risk spending on repairs? You just bought it, now is the best time to get out from under it.
Just my opinion, but it’s your money.
Did you do a car fax before you bought it? It would be very interesting to see if the previous owners of your truck had any problems with it. If it were me, I would trade it off and chalk it up to not doing my research before buying. Owning one of these outside of warranty is like playing...
I hope you actually did get a new engine. A recent poster on another thread found out FCA authorized a factory reconditioned engine for his warranty replacement. They’ve got to be out of motors by now with this failure rate.
You are looking for wear metals in your analysis. For those numbers to mean anything, you have to have some more miles on the sample. There is an oil analysis thread on this forum that i bet you would find interesting.
