I have the same issue - all four sensors show a problem in my new AlfaOBD setup!
Sensors have 3 wires:
+8.6Volts power
-ve or Ground from the module
And Signal back to the module
EDIT Module is under driver kickpanel. I'm going to test at the sensors first for +ve
Tested 8.6V at sensor is OK...
Agreed - short trip duty = high on particulates, low on exhaust temps and regen opportunity. Results in high DPF% and probably excess soot/EGR as well. Exactly what happened when we used it this way, resulting in engine fail at just 30K miles.
But all that deleted it's a different beast - runs...
As said before I went used motor and EGR/DPF/SCR delete. Coupled with my LiON battery I figure I have +200lbs avail on payload! Going to tow a 6000lb 28foot Airstream, dual axle 700lb TW with it. The deleted motor has my guess 5% (maybe 10%) more power, so should be good for towing. I towed that...
Not getting smoke but my guys who use it are complaining of acrid exhaust. Most of the trucks on our industrial site are deletes (welders, industrial coatings etc) These guys are 3500 series and up.
Particulates, NOx are maybe the biggest culprits.
I think the idea, lore, sound and at-the-pump emotional economy of a diesel are driving the desire. Like most consumer things behavioral. I did for me, & I was clueless in 2015.
My wife's BMW X5 45e is 4L/100km from factory. Less than a Fiat 500 which runs at 6L/100. That's insane!
Not a...
Only 30K miles on ours, and $5K in service later, the engine was finally running OK (no CEL), had the new EGR before failing in city driving.
I went with a used motor and full delete/tune, $20K CAD total. The engine spins freely and drives great, but smelly.
I think there is a difference...
All that time on your hands and you couldn't hit a neon sign and get Chris Lane to sing "I don't know about you" (but I'd ditch that eco-d :) & hitch a ride home.
Being serious now - that report of oil level high must be something tied to failure.
You might have additional trip coverage on...
Yeah that's Eric, lots of projects but he gets them done. BMW guru, has a 928 too. Everyone is watching netflix etc and I watch IDOCARS teardowns.
PS: He should be wearing safety glasses.
I bought mine through the search car-part.com. Seems like good stock out there. Refer to Grade A/B etc. Prices seem to be about $10K USD. Miles don't matter too much on these I think. Components do:
Tone ring, starter, thermostat, belt, fuel filter, injectors
https://car-part.com/
Probably their insurance company. Seems strange as it's a pretty simple procedure and they do that all day long. Other oil volume increases could be contaminated with diesel (injector leak) or coolant.
2015 30K miles engine went. Got a used motor and delete about $20K CAD. Can't get crate motors up here.
EGR, DPF, SCR/DEF inj ckt is gone. Straight pipe installed and EGR port blanks. Have all original parts returned to me from shop.
Some sort of tune, not sure which one.
Tune is required...
Get a scope or graph of the tone ring signal first. IDK what scanner can do that... Snap-on, or that Alfa tool? For example I can plot any signal, sensor etc with my iPhone on Range Rovers with my ODB wireless "GAP" tool. Same for VW-dub Audi I have Ross-Tech interface.
I might get the Alfa...
The magnetic strip busts off in a short section eg 1/2" of total . So it still works but produces a gapped waveform that the PCM or ECU can't deal with.= no injector pulse, no start
Now normally I'd say look at the tach needle but in this case it's very subtle to pick that up. Just checked -...
The tone ring which gives RPM > to meter fuel injectors. The failure of that ring results in a small gap in the magnetic ladder. So there is a signal but missing pulses every rotation. IDK if that throws a code or not. Causes crank but no start. Causes the fuel injectors to stay off/inactive...
