The BD Pedal commander does work, it just changes the APPS ,ticks the sensor into sending the Position is higher/more pedal. You won't see as great a difference as the BD Cummins commander. I would just adapt to the 3.0 driving before dropping the $$$.

EGR gases mix with incoming air cooled, its unlikely the Exhaust gases in the Plenum can heat the incoming air enough to combust, the source of the combustion IMO has to come elsewhere.
We are talking flame temps 1500F+ after cylinder combustion.

Thiers's your fire. The plenum, Look at the casting fins on bottom backside, Once the swirl valves sick heat will warp the intake Valve(s) and the flame will fine its way to the plenum, its only time before it combusts. VM can replace every EGR cooler and it will still happen.
